My Thai wife and I are planning to go to Thailand on Nov 10. I have a visa and am working on the COEs. I checked with 2 insurance companies and they won’t provide the $100k COVID insurance for her since we are planning on coming into Bangkok ASQ and because she is Thai. Does this mean that if you are Thai and not doing Phuket/ Samuel that insurance is not necessary. And what she were to get covid—what to do?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether Thai citizens require COVID-19 insurance when entering Thailand, particularly concerning the Alternate State Quarantine (ASQ) protocol. The general consensus is that Thai citizens do not need insurance when entering Thailand under ASQ, based on the entry requirements listed by the Thai government. However, there are differing opinions about the necessity of insurance for Thai citizens in other contexts such as the Phuket Sandbox. It is suggested that individuals check with the Thai Embassy for the most accurate and current information.

Sorry to muddy the waters, Thais in sandbox need insurance, Thais in Bangkok ALQ don't I believe, I believe Thais in ASQ might need it, but I'm leaning towards they don't.

I believe that if you are Thai you do not need the insurance.

if you read entry requirements for Thais, then non-thais. The entry requirements for the Thais do not mention insurance and the non-thais do. That's why i think Thais don't need it, but to be sure you should check with the Thai Embassy in the country you are flying from.

i thought they were covered with their national insurance

Ok you might be right. If that's the case it must have changed. What's your source for that info?

You need insurance. Tipinsure.com is who I used, it was 2800 for a 30 day policy. They email you the certificate right after you pay.

No problem getting insurance for myself. We will be in Thailand for 4 months. Does she only need 30 days?

@Da***
If she's Thai yeah, 30 day policy is fine. She just needs insurance for the period she's in quarantine, most companies only sell 30 day policies though.

then no need for you to do ASQ quarantine... Watch for news updates on new entry requirements for those fully vaccinated and from select countries.

yes I am aware of the potential changes to the quarantine. However, as we already bought our plane ticket for November 10, and because I was warned that Coe at Washington DC consulate could take 15 days, I did not think it prudent to wait to Nov 1 to start Coe especially if Coe doesn’t go away on Nov 1. The documentation on the consulate website only talks about October 1 changes.
