TLDR : Answer Summary
For the Test & Go program in Phuket, it is not mandatory to use a hotel transfer; however, the transfer must be a certified SHA+ service. While some users reported using hotel transfers for their convenience and to receive necessary documentation, alternatives like Grab or third-party cabs could work as long as they meet the SHA+ requirements.
I used the Hotel Transfer, its not the cheapest but they give you a letter which states a serial number of the Transfer registration. I go to Kamala, private car normally costs between 700-1000, Hotel charged me 820 with the letter.

Letter ? does this letter a requirement when exiting the airport ?
I've seen in other posts that people have been asked to show immigration proof that they have a approved (sha+) transfer. I just don't want the hassle.

It doesn’t have to be a hotel transfer but it must be a SHA+ transfer. You may or may not be able to find one at the airport if you haven’t booked via the hotel.

Thanks man. The hotel is charging 1500 because it is a Van. whereas i saw from phuketshuttle, a normal car cost 750. both SHA+. So i was wondering whether it is necessary to have everything booked with the hotel.
be careful. Just book the hotel transfer. You are paying thousands of $$$ coming to Thailand. Why quibble over it. Have peace of mind knowing the hotel will be there to meet you on arrival.
