What are the best transportation options from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak for expats?

Hello, everyone.

I am just wondering how you guys are being shuttled from the Airports. I am going to Thailand 10 of april, and i am going to be shuttled from Phuket INT AirPort to Kaho lak.

Personally, i think the AirPort transfer that the hotels have as an opnertunity, is a bit expensive. What are you guys doing when you do not want to use the AirPort transfer from the SHA Extra Plus Hotel?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around transportation alternatives for expats traveling from Phuket International Airport to Khao Lak, especially regarding the cost of hotel transfers. Many participants share experiences and suggest alternatives to hotel-provided transfers, such as pre-scheduled SHA+ taxis, which require pre-payment and booking. While hotel transfers can be quite expensive (reported around 3000 baht), other options like shared vans or private services may range from 700 to 1100 baht. Several contributors also mention the necessity of adhering to safety protocols, including PPE for drivers, and express concerns over taxi fares being significantly higher in Phuket.

Motri On Tour Amazing service and price!!! I’ve used him to go all over South Thailand!!

I was collected from the airport in a minivan with a screen behind the driver and no other passengers. We went to a drive through testing centre and I was tested at the sliding door, then delivered to the hotel.

My airport pick up was included in the test and go package. Great service, reasonable price.

Taxi fares on Phuket are an absolute rip off.

Khao Lak isn't a two minute drive. And what were you expecting to pay in a province where bandits control local transportation?
Steve **********
@Kevin **********
as it is in most 'cities ', not necessarily province wide

Phuket is mostly the island, and Phuket Airport is under cartel control.

not sure how much cheaper it usually is but you can try some of the SHA+ taxis and shop around. I can agree it is on the high end but not sure how many willing to go there. My taxi was 700 THB and I went to the central part near Phuket Country club.

It is more expensive from normal taxi as its modified for transporting customers who havent had there PCR results yet (this is a goverment rule)

There are maximum prices set depending upon the distance.

one i went in was all divided up with plastic sheeting and tubing, which probably cost about 300 baht in home pro.

Mines was to Rawai and cost 1100 baht. I used to live in Rawai and 1000 baht was a common cost FROM airport VIP was 1500 baht.

It's not just a transfer. They are in PPE, etc. It's not a taxi.

the PPE for going Test&Go twice that I have seen is a mask. 😅

Yes. In advance. They were waiting for me after my RT-PCR test at the airport. Was well organized.

yes me too. You are told where the hotel stands are. You have booked ahead, they will be waiting for you and others who have booked to various hotels. Usually hotel transportation to pcr testing at nearest site, then on to your room to await results. Much better than I expected. I’m older and traveled alone 8,500 miles and was a little concerned. Also the hotel I stayed in Bangkok in my return trip made all the arrangements for test and transport to and from hotel for a modest fee. The US at that time (February) required a return test.

Thai Pass rules change like the weather. On

when I arrived in Phuket I had to have prearrange prepaid RT-PCR Test and SHA-Plus Hotel reservation for the 1st night which you were ushered off by the taxi right after swab. The hotel will be emailed your result so you know when you are free to roam. Google Thai Pass and it gives the list of eveything you need to do. Have it all in a folder because every airport enroute will ask you for all requirements "when" they see your destination is Thailand.

you did not have to put this on the Thai Pass, or is it more up to you? Are They checking if you have paid in advance?

In Phuket you can book your own transportation but it must be SHA+, you must pre-pay and you must get an invoice showing it's paid to submit as part of your Thailand Pass application.

. No issues. I had a cab pre scheduled per the initial RT-PCR Test & Go as soon as got off the plane. I think maybe has changed since but on initial day I was taxi'd to designated hotel for 1 day quarantine per the Thai Pass. Never had any issues with taxi's or shuttles except twice in Bangkok.

Thank you. Did you show information that you had paid the taxi in advance, or you may have an acquaintance? I think I'm ordering a taxi, or private transport. The hotel's offer was poor but expensive
