If you apply for a DTV (in this case at the London embassy) whilst in the UK, do you need to remain in the country until the application is approved? It would be great to apply while home for Christmas but I’m worried about the processing time as I may only be home for a week.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a DTV visa at the London embassy, it is advisable to remain in the UK until your application is approved, as you may be called for an interview. Some applicants have successfully traveled to Thailand during processing, but this is considered risky. The processing times at the London embassy are relatively quick and may take less than a week.

Some people have been lucky to come to Thailand while the application was in process. It’s a risk you must be willing to take as it can go both ways.
