Travelling from Canada, I'm eligible for a visa exemption and 30 day stay. I am aware of all paperwork, etc. needed. My question is:

Does Immigration need to see proof of a domestic flight to CMX? I was hoping to book after clearing Immigration. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) inquired whether Thai Immigration requires proof of a domestic flight to Chiang Mai when arriving on a visa exemption. Responses clarified that while Immigration typically does not need to see a ticket for the domestic flight upon arrival, the airline may ask for proof of a departure ticket from Thailand within 30 days. It's also noted that Thai Immigration can request a departure ticket but this usually happens only with prior overstays. Additionally, the OP was reminded of the possibility to extend their stay for an additional 30 days, emphasizing the need for TM30 address registration.

I believe that the OP has the answers needed for her question. We wish her safe travels and a pleasant stay in Thailand.

When we last arrived into bangkok I was asked for my boarding pass from arriving flight (first time)and proof of departure ticket out of Thailand( also first time).I had no overstays in my travels to Thailand as a sidebar.

These are the common found requirements for the 30 days extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for.

Thai Immigration does not require you showing a ticket FROM BKK Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok to Chiang Mai upon arrival into Thailand if that's your destination.

However your airline may ask to see proof your ticket departing Thailand within the 30 days of your arrival into Thailand. As you are entering Visa Exempt.

Thai Immigration can also ask to see PROOF of your flight departing Thailand within the 30 days of your arrival as Visa Exempt. BUT not likely unless you have a recent history of staying in Thailand.

Your Visa Exempt Entry into Thailand is eligible for a 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht. As you have been in Thailand before, I assume that you know the process of getting the 30 days extension of stay.

But this time be sure to have a TM30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration as it's NOW required to get any extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office.

Actually we have seen where Immigration in Thailand can ask for that return ticket sometimes (i and a whole bunch of people were asked a month ago). It's rare, but it happens. I was pulled into the back and questioned and I had a good reason for not having one, but i was cautioned about making sure to have one next time.

ask your airline if they will require you to show PROOF of your departure from Thailand within the 30 days stamp you will get on arrival...
