I have 800,000k Baht in my Bangkok Bank account in my name only. In order to use this to get my retirement extension do I have to prove that the money came from an overseas transfer.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a retirement extension in Thailand using banked money, it is not necessary to prove that the funds came from an overseas transfer. The key requirements are that the funds must remain in a Thai bank account in your name only for at least 2 months before applying, must stay in the account for 3 months after the extension is granted, and must not fall below 400,000 Baht for the remainder of the year. Required documentation includes a 3-month transaction report, a standard bank letter confirming details, and an updated bank book at the time of application.

and yet again, another thread devolved into the "4 months frozen account" bangkok bank ONLY conversation.

People that has NOTHING to do with visa advice, it's a bank policy

We are done, best of luck to the O/P

the money has been in the account for two years, I’m assuming I won’t have a problem getting the letter.

No.

What do you call it if you are applying for an annual retirement extension? Is this different than the initial retirement extension.

Isn’t there a requirement for a 12 month bank statement under this situation?

great that Chang Mai immi office posts this info. Every time I apply at Jomtien there are numerous farangs that don't know what docs they need. I've always thought it would be better for farangs--and office personnel, if they posted signs with docs needed for the various visas/extensions. I know you can find it online but seems a lot of people can't find the info they need online.

yes - sometimes online is not accurate or up to date 🙄

also the poster.. note handwritten additions .

I’ve been doing extensions for more than 5 years now at Chiang Mai, and every time I bring in the paperwork based on last years requirement plus on line check for update, there’s still at least one of the 20-30 pp that I have to change or add more info to.

I’m hoping that one day it might be possible to pre-fill the forms on line …. one day.

To get a year extension based on retirement using banked money method there is no requirement that the funds come from abroad.

You need to have the funds in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the year extension, the funds need to stay in the account for 3 months after the extension is granted and then the balance can't go below 400k baht the rest of the year.

The documentation you need from the bank is a 3 month detail transaction report (statement), the 'standard bank letter' (stating your name, account, date and balance the day the letter was written) and then update the bank book the date you apply for the extension

it's now 4 months before the visa is made ,

You're confusing a Bangkok Bank banking policy with the seasoning requirements for bank money method on a retirement extension.

Those are two completely different things entirely.

Only Bangkok Bank has that wacky 4 month frozen funds policy..

@Tod ********
yes they froze mine for four months and gave me the letter then not four months later

so did you have to agree and sign that your account be frozen for four months and you will not make any withdrawals during that time. Did you have the money in your account long before requesting the letter.

I think you’re referring to Bangkok Bank insisting the money is deposited in your account for four months before they issue a letter. I’ve had that money in the account for two years. You’re wrong to say the visa takes four months to be issued.
