Do I need to leave Thailand before my 90-day reporting date for my non O-A visa?

I'm on a non O-A multiple entry 1 year visa. I have my first 90 day report approaching. I plan to take a foreign trip just before that date...and return after the current reporting date. I know it then resets my reporting date for another 90 days. My specific question is do I need to leave and return prior to my current 90 reporting date or as long as I depart Thailand prior to the reporting date, all is fine (in terms of not reporting and re-starting the 90 day countdown). Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is on a non O-A multiple entry 1-year visa and is inquiring about the timing of a departure from Thailand in relation to their upcoming 90-day reporting date. They are considering taking a foreign trip before the reporting date and want to confirm if leaving before the reporting date is mandatory or if leaving prior to the reporting date is sufficient to reset the 90-day reporting countdown.
