When entering Thailand you are sometimes asked to show you have ฿20,000 can you show them you have ฿20,000 in your Thai Bank Account using your Bank App?
Answer summary
When entering Thailand, proof of funds may be requested, specifically in cash. While some travelers report never being asked for this proof, the official requirement states that cash must be shown. Thai Immigration officers typically prefer cash in Thai Baht or equivalent foreign currency, as bank statements or digital bank app confirmations may not be accepted. Therefore, it is advisable for travelers to carry ฿20,000 in cash to avoid any issues upon entry.

Jeezuz H Christ !! :O This thread turned into a slow motion train wreck.. :(

Listen up people, the fact you have never been asked for proof of funds when stamping in to thailand (even if you came here a million times) does not negate the fact that the rules about proof of funds when entering thailand clearly state you show CASH in thai baht OR an international currency.

The officer AT THEIR DISCRETION may accept bank balance, c/c, etc BUT they are under no obligation to do so..

Best of luck to the O/P, as people DID point out, the demographic that is usually asked for funds already has an extensive entry/stay history to thailand, the vast majority of people are not asked <- BUT they could be :)

Hard cash I'd also be very wary of showing them a Bangkok Bank account while I'm assuming you're maybe still on a tourist visa? I've had mine for years, but would always bring a wedge for the worse case

Cash only, either in Thai Baht banknotes or major international foreign currency banknotes that are easily convertible (to Thai Baht)

It must be cash, Thai baht or equivalent in another currency, it has been a requirement for many years but is rarely asked for proof. Just make life easy comply with the requirements, it’s only a small amount at any case.

Highly unlikely you will be asked, but if you are it must be in cash, either Thai baht or the equivalent in foreign currency.

Depends what sort of mood the IO is in. Officially, cash.

I here different stories on that. I usually don't carry much cash on me except when I need too. This is one case I will carry 20k since I heard people getting denied entry. Honestly it's bullshit if you ask me, showing your bank account APP should be good enough. I have never been asked before but I usually arrive after 11pm

the only reason they would ask somebody for the 20K is they already feel like the person is abusing the system and they don't trust them so we're trying to find an excuse to not let them in. The next question would be "return ticket".

But as many people have said they've never been asked this question because they are not trying to live in Thailand and do Visa runs continuously....

The requirement is for cash in any currency. I see no reason to tempt fate, despite it being enforced very selectively.

Highly unlikely you'll be asked HOWEVER it IS a requirement, as you're aware.

So to answer your question; No.

The 20,000 Baht has to be in THB or the equivalent to 20,000THB in any currency.

Cards, apps, paper statements, etc. are all no good.

If you have an elite/LTR, you do not need to.

ALL others can be asked and if asked are required to have in cash.

The IO discretion MAY allow a bank balance, but not required to.

all you have to do is request a supervisor who will straighten it out.

Or show them the brochure given by the elite office in Thai (e copy) and they let you through.

If you get asked it's because they are looking for a reason to deny entry. Best to have it in cash

If one looks like a hippie, ih ruffle clothes, shoddy appearance, arriving from, say, Nepal, Immigration may ask them for 20,000 THB. Before they ask them, they had already decided not to let them into Thai.

It's doubtful that you will be asked as you have a valid Thai Visa.

Having said that...

If you were asked....

Thai Immigration officers want to see CASH... not a bank account, credit card or bank statements.

AND Alex Ve, in a reply which I have removed, asserted that the DTV visa holders were at greater risk of being asked to show proof of the 20,000 Thai baht CASH on arrival... THAT'S NOT 🚫 HAPPENING. While anyone can be asked to show proof, there's NO targeted effort towards the DTV visa holders by Thai Immigration officers.
