Hello, newb here. I am in the process of applying for LTR visa. I have seen it mentioned on this page that people have needed authenticated passports for various reasons, but so far I dont see that it is a requirement for me, and it is quite costly. For what circumstances does one require an authenticated passport? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the necessity of having an authenticated passport while applying for the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa in Thailand. Initially, the user expressed confusion regarding the requirement for authenticated passports and sought clarity on when it may be needed. Various comments indicate that while some believe it is not necessary for the LTR visa application, there are instances where authenticated copies may be required, particularly to prove authenticity to certain entities. Ultimately, it is suggested that for the LTR visa, one can focus on completing the online application, proving income, and providing insurance or proof of funds without the need for passport authentication.

You might need to authenticate copies of your passport and translations. But the passport itself cannot be "authenticated", as it is (should be!?) authentic!

No, you don’t need an ‘authenticated’ passport. Do the online application, prove your income, add insurance OR proof of 100k, then await approval.

various organisations, you can use it with Bangkok Bank for instance to open an account if you don't have other documentation they require, government departments could require it.

Unlikely you'll need it when dealing with visa / immigration, they'll know your passport is real.

I never said there was a need for LTR tho, I didn't even mention LTR...

He specifically asked what entities in Thailand required authentication of passport, which I provided some examples that do require it.
