TLDR : Answer Summary
The original inquiry regarding the applicability of recent rule changes for a holder of a DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) highlights some confusion about visa classifications. Responses clarify that despite living in Thailand for 12 months, the individual is still classified as a tourist, not a permanent resident, and therefore subject to the regulations specific to temporary visa holders. Comments emphasize that permanent residency requires a separate application process and various qualifications.

Another truth bomb is Thailand don't care you married or not. I was married to a Thai almost 10 years. You are a guest there unless you got through the formal process to gain a long stays visa or residentnt status. From what I member you must speak and writ thai before they would even consider you. And you must habe

Here a better explanation from Ai. Here’s the correct answer to the question in the photo:

No — it does NOT apply to him as a permanent resident, because he is not a permanent resident.

What’s going on:

Having a DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) or living in Thailand for 12 months does not make you a permanent resident.

In Thailand, permanent residency is a completely different legal status that requires a formal application and approval from immigration.

So even though he lives there with his wife, he is still considered a temporary visa holder, not a permanent resident.

Simple way to answer him:

> “No, those rule changes would apply based on your visa type. A DTV visa doesn’t make you a permanent resident, so you’d still be subject to whatever rules apply to that visa.”

If you want, tell me what “rule changes” he’s talking about and I can explain exactly how they affect him 👍

I guess we are all permanent residents of Thailand woohooooo. 🙄 I sincerely hope you don't tell everyone you are a permanent resident...with DTV. You can't even work in Thailand!!!

You are not a permanent resident.

The DTV is classified as a tourist visa. So you are still just a tourist.

But there is no actual insurance requirement, yet.

So we don't know how this will affect anyone until it's actually a thing.

You are not a permanent resident but just an ordinary extended tourist visa holder. 😳

Travel insurance for tourists is merely something they possibly might require in the future. Obviously a good idea but not a rule as yet.

As you are just a tourist, carry on as normal with your DTV. No changes

Not sure what rule changes you refer to?

You are not a permanent resident though, you can only stay 180 days at a time with a DTV visa.
