I’m just getting my backupplan ready incase my second ED visa is not granted at Penang tomorrow (the officer mentioned it’s not easy to get ED visa’s at Penang for whatever reason).
Apparently there are minibuses driving from Penang to Hatyai so I’m thinking of just crossing the border and getting a visa exempt. Should be a possibility as I haven’t done any this calendar year. I can then book a much cheaper flight in two months from now to the Netherlands, my home country, and apply for ED there once more.
Anyway, is there any paperwork I should prepare? Have always only done Mae Sai runs and never been asked any documents there.
I have a bank statement/krungsri app with appropriate bank balance and my condo keycard with me. Will onwards travel documents be asked for, and if so, is it okay to purchase and show a flight booking for 2 months from now meaning that I’ll be extending the visa by 30 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing for the possibility of not receiving their second Education (ED) visa at Penang and is considering crossing the border to apply for a visa exempt entry into Thailand. They are inquiring about the necessary paperwork for this border crossing, mentioning they already have a bank statement and condo keycard. Community comments suggest that cash is preferred for border runs, and the user should have proof of accommodation, a ticket out of Thailand, and it is advised to have the required amount in cash rather than a bank statement.
Didn’t get granted an ED visa but they were nice enough to give me a tourist visa instead. Will have to look for future options after this 3 month period as I’m not able to purchase an Elite Visa until January 2021. Maybe an METV from my home country or two border runs and a few months spent in Taiwan/Vietnam.
