Hello! I'm headed to Hanoi to visit and get a SETV after my METV runs out. My plan to enter Thailand is actually by bus (possibly taxi) from Thakhek, Laos to Nakhon Phanom. I don't think I can prebook this bus trip so my question is, do I have to show the thai embassy in hanoi proof of entry or will my proof of departure be enough. Yes, I am allowed one more land entry.

thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is planning to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) at the Thai embassy in Hanoi after their Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) expires. They intend to travel to Thailand from Laos by land and are unsure if they need to present proof of entry into Thailand along with their visa application or if proof of departure will suffice. Commenters clarified that generally, proof of both entry and onward travel is required when applying for a visa at the embassy.

Please report back if you are successful in getting a SETV back to back with the METV.

Good luck.

they might (as in maybe) let you slide on your "proof you're going to enter thailand"

BUT they will hammer you for proof of onward travel in 60 - 90 days, I'd definitely buy some ticket that shows you leaving thailand and going to another country like a bus ticket form Bangkok to Siem Reap or something

you are slightly confused about "land entries"

You can enter thailand by land with a valid VISA in your passport as many times as you want to.

What you are thinking of is the TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land you can do in a calendar year (meaning you DON'T have a visa in your passport and you get in free for 30 days)

You're not gonna get a tourist visa from there without proof you're entering thailand AND that you're leaving thailand in 60-90 days.
