TLDR : Answer Summary
You do not need to obtain medical insurance from a Thai company for your single entry tourist visa. It's sufficient to have any local insurance that covers at least $100,000 USD for COVID-19 for the length of your stay. Some embassies might have specific requirements, so it's good to verify based on your embassy's guidelines. Options like Luma insurance or AXA in Thailand are mentioned as acceptable.

I applied for the tourist visa so it’s a maximum stay of 90 days.

But yes if you apply for another visa that has a kinder duration I’d say to be safe get insurance for the duration of your visa.

In my case I don’t need longer coverage

The criteria according to the London embassy (as a guide others may differ) states COVID-19 health insurance cover for the length of your stay covering at least to 100,000 USD. If does not stipulate if the company needs to be a Thai company or local.
