LayOver: 1 hour 20 mins- no self transfer

2nd flight: Thai International- Bangkok to Melbourne

Do I need a visa for Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are a Nepali citizen transiting through Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok with a layover of 1 hour and 20 minutes, you do not require a visa for Thailand as long as you remain in the international transit zone and your luggage is checked through to Melbourne. It is crucial to confirm with your airline that your bags are tagged to your final destination to avoid needing to collect them during your layover. Given the short layover time, it's advised to head directly to your next gate without attempting to go through immigration.

Some nationalities might need a transit visa, but as far as I'm aware, Nepalese citizens don't.

yes I believe so, but don't worry about it as it only applies to a small number of obscure nationalities.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Anyway, if you're Nepali, a visa free transit is permitted.

No need. When you check in at Nepal, Thai will check you in for both flights and will arrange baggage transfer. You just need to hop from one gate to another in BKK Suvaranabhumi.

No problems about visas since a Thai visa is not necessary for transit within Suvarnabhumi Airport....

But, 80 minutes for transit and luggage transfer between 2 international flights at Suvarnabhumi Airport = you (transit passenger) may board the connecting flight in time, but there is a risk that your transfer luggage may not get transferred on the airplane in time....considering early evening (5pm-6pm) arrival and departure is a busy time....

It is for some nationalities, though as far as I'm aware, not for Nepalese. They simply need a visa to enter Thailand, meaning to pass through immigration.

Unfortunately, Nepal Ordinary Passports do not have Thai Visa Exemption and cannot get Thai VoA (Visa on Arrival)....

Do note that airport transit more than >12 hours, should obtain a Thai Transit Visa "TS" >

You won’t be there long enough to get a visa exempt stamp….off the plane walk straight to your other gate it will probably already be open for loading by time you get there

"Visa exempt stamp"? He's Nepalese. He isn't even eligible for a visa on arrival. He needs a visa in advance to enter Thailand!

If you don't have to leave the international transit zone (i.e. your luggage will follow without you having to collect it in BKK and check in again), then no need any visa. Anyway, with only 1h20 min, you would not have enough time to go through immigration, collect your luggage, go through immigration again and catch your second flight. When you check i in Nepal MAKE SURE YOUR LUGGAGE FOLLOWS TILL MELBOURNE !

If traveling to Canberra, I think you would have been better off flying Singapore Airlines via Singapore, since SQ flies to Canberra directly. A 2-hr layover in Melbourne, considering you have to clear immigration there is cutting it short. You'll probably miss your onward flight.

No, it's enough time. Well, just enough, but it's sufficient. As long as he can simply transfer from one flight to the next.

As long as you don't need to self transfer and collect your bags to recheck them, you should have no reason to leave the secure area of the airport and therefore won't cross passport control.
