I am retired and hoping to visit Thailand 5 1/2 months total each calendar year on three separate visits. Do I need any specific visa, and if not, should I expect any issues at entry with Immigration officers? Thank

no such rule, it's a myth. But, if immigration thinks you are milking visa exempt stamps to live here, then prepare to be pulled aside. In the OP case they are a genuine tourist staying a few months at a time, no issues.

If over 50 get yourself a retirement visa and come and go as you like.

My advice would be to get either a:
