TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether it's possible to convert a Non-O visa into an ED visa in Thailand. It has been clarified that you cannot switch from one Non Immigrant visa to another directly. However, individuals holding a Non-O visa can study without needing to convert to an ED visa. If the Non-O visa expires, a new visa application based on a different reason would need to be submitted.

Our OP has good answers to his questions. Thanks
@Robert ******
.

Good luck...

IMHO...a simple border run or visit to Savannakhet is much better than switching from Marriage to Thai visa to an Ed visa.

The coronavirus issue the OP mentions in his wanting not to travel outside of Thailand is of little risk.

The virus does travel across borders and sadly is already in Thailand.

if you do not want to leave the country, visit your local Immigration Office and get the hand out with requirements and apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on being married to a Thai National.

No, you can not switch from one Non Immigrant visa into another.

If the visa runs out, you can apply for another visa based on another reason.

If you're on a Multiple Entry Non-O Visa, I would keep your Non-O visa until it expires. You get nothing out of getting rid of it and buying an ED visa (assuming you can even buy an ED visa because you already have a valid visa that you can study on).

What do you mean by "transfer a Non-O into an ED visa"?

1. If you have a Non-O visa, you can study on that visa.

2. If you're referring to getting an extension of stay based on studying, I believe you can only get that on an ED visa.
