After advice from Aussies who hold an R series passport.
Has anyone been able to open a bank account using an R series passport?
Kasikorn?
Thanks in advance.
Answer summary
The community discusses the feasibility of opening a bank account in Thailand with an R series passport, specifically addressing experiences with different banks like Kasikorn and Krungsri. Several members share their successful experiences, while others highlight issues related to the passport's scan-ability and local bank policies. Overall, it appears that whether one can open an account may depend more on having the proper documentation and the specific bank's policies rather than the passport series itself.

make sure when you do it to get them to do your facial recognition in the kbank app at the same time ( good for when you want to change phones/ transfer limits in the future also)
Christopher Hetherington no…Kasikorn bank need to manually scan the passport chip through a reader. If they can’t do this…they refuse your bank account
Bob D'Andrea sorry? I’m quite understanding of relevant policies and legislation. What you’re not understanding is that you cannot make a bank open an account. I have gone to ‘all’ the banks in the town I’m in and all can’t open an account based on various local in house policies. I think that’s what you’re not understanding. Outside of my area, the banks have said you need to open an account in the town in which you have a TM30
Bob D'Andrea incorrect. I have everything in order. The bank will not open an account as my RA series passport cannot be scanned by the machines they’re using.
