Hi All. So my DTV is approved! My question is, is there a time limit on when I need to move there by? (My plan was later in the year, but I wanted to apply for it asap, before the DTV may "go away"

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Congratulations on your approved DTV visa! There is no rush to 'activate' it, as you can enter Thailand anytime within the 5 years of its validity. While some comments suggest a need to enter within 3 months of approval, it seems that your DTV visa remains active regardless of when you choose to enter. However, the sooner you enter, the more time you have to utilize your visa.

You have 5 years to use it.

The longer you wait, the more of your visa is wasted on nothing. But the same goes for the time you spend outside of Thailand after being here. So you decide how to use it.

The visa expiration date is on your visa document.

What did you say for when you are arriving, leaving and accommodation in Thailand? If you are not going in the near future?

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

You don't "activate" it. It's valid for 5 years.

You'll need to go to Thailand and enter on your DTV within three months of it being granted, otherwise it'll become void. So if you were planning to move there more than three months from now, I would simply visit Thailand just before three months from now to 'activate' your DTV. Then return to wherever you live and wait until you're ready to go back there to live later in this year

Sorry but that's false information. You can enter Thailand anytime during the 5 years of the DTV visa.

That’s flat out incorrect. The visa is active from the moment it is issued and the only difference between entering a day or a year after it is issued is that you have less time left on the visa.

People are conflating consular offices not processing applications where the anticipated date of arrival is more than 3 months out and this “activation period” which doesn’t exist for multiple entry visas.

Single entry visas like a Non-Immigrant B/O/ED are normally only valid for 90 days so you do need to enter Thailand within 3 months or the visa expires but multiple entry visas are active from the date of issue.

My agent mentioned that your first entry needs to be within 3 months of the approval. They’ve seen issues with some who waited longer.
