For US citizens, is there an option to apply online for DTV E-visa and receive it my email or must apply, receive at the consulate physically. Please share your experience. Thanks.

Yes! Go to the official Thai embassy website. You'll be asked for your embassy based on where you are from. Just like anywhere else except in the US they are asking for tax returns. I was approved in 17 days through DC.
