For a friend (really)

Her extension of stay (retirement) expires on 08/04/21 and she is returning to UK but not until 20/04/21.

Can she obtain a covid extension?

If so, what's the process? (She is in Hua Hin)

Does she need to cancel the extension or just let it expire?

Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user asked if a friend could obtain a COVID-19 extension for her retirement visa that expires on April 8, 2021, as she is returning to the UK on April 20, 2021. Responses indicated that since the COVID extension was available only until March 30, 2021, she would not qualify for it. It was suggested that she could cancel her retirement extension and apply for a COVID extension, but confirmation from the local Immigration office was recommended.

, She might be able to cancel her current extension base on retirement and apply for a Covid extension immediately. But I would check with the local Immigration office first before you apply for cancellation of the current one.

/21.

If her extension of stay expires on April 8, 2021, she will not be able to get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, since the last day they are selling it is March 30, 2021.

>Does she need to cancel the extension or just let it expire?

A person can change the reason for the extension of stay. I doubt the government would allow a person to change from "extension of stay due to retirement" to an "extension of stay due to unable to travel because of COVID-19"

Surely she doesn’t have to wait until he 8th of April? Worth going to immigration and asking them if she can sort something out before the March 30th deadline.

thanks... I will pass it on.

Are there any options available to her other than overstay?

As of right now, no. Before you tell her that there's no options, let's wait until some of the other mods chime in.

There *MAY BE* a chance the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 will continue past March 30 as well
