Hello all, I have a non-immigrant “O” retirement visa set to expire December 5, 2022. I am teaching in Mandalay, Myanmar until May 31, 2022. I will be in Thailand for Christmas—but obviously that’s after the expiration of my visa. Is it practical to renew via Thai embassy Yangon? If it let my visa lapse, do I need anything to enter Thailand for 3 weeks in December/January? Thanks for any advice. Jack

TLDR : Answer Summary
Jack has a non-immigrant 'O' retirement visa expiring on December 5, 2022, while he is teaching in Myanmar. He plans to visit Thailand for Christmas but is unsure about renewing his visa at the Thai embassy in Yangon and what he needs to enter Thailand if his visa lapses. Comments suggest he cannot renew or extend his visa in Myanmar and must fly into Thailand, where he could potentially receive a 45-day stamp on arrival.

If that plan described above does not work... Then enter Thailand by AIRLINE FLIGHT and get 45 days stamp on Arrival into Thailand.
When you get close to the ending date of your teaching contract in Myanmar, then apply for the Non O Visa as retiree and enter Thailand. Following up with your Thai immigration office for their requirements for the One year extension of stay as retired.
You CANNOT renew or obtain a One year extension of stay as retired in the Thai Embassy in Myanmar.
You might be able to get a New Non O Visa as retiree from the Thai Embassy in Myanmar if you have residency in Myanmar. ASK the Thai Embassy in Yangon.
Then to ENTER Thailand from Myanmar you must FLY into Thailand. As land border crossings into Thailand from Myanmar are CLOSED to foreigners.
I assume that you have the REQUIRED 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only. As you currently have a One year extension of stay as retired.
The key to get the One year extension of stay as retired will be the timing of your visit to the Thai immigration office...do it ASAP upon arrival into Thailand.
