Immigration says they’ll need b40,000 to enter. My question is can they have the equivalent in US$?
Answer summary
A family of 5 visiting Thailand in July inquired if they can present the equivalent of 40,000 baht in US dollars upon entry. Multiple comments confirmed that any major currency is acceptable, including dollars, as long as the amount is equivalent to 40,000 baht. It's essential that the currency is in new, clean bills for easier exchange later. Some users noted that they have never been asked for proof of funds when entering Thailand.

I entered in April with a family of 8 and a dog was asked no question at all.
But please be sure that any bills you want to exchange for Thai baht are not marked or damaged in any way, they must be new bills to be exchanged. No marks
