TLDR : Answer Summary
You can withdraw money after depositing 65,000 baht into your account. The key requirement is that the funds need to have been transferred from abroad and must be shown as deposited every month for the past 12 months before applying for your visa extension.

Yep, no requirement to keep that money in the bank at all,

You just show it is transferred in from abroad, each month, every month, for the previous 12 months before you apply for your extension.

And just like that, seeing as this thread devolved into a how can I cheaply move money by wise and will it work at immigrations conversation, we are done.

Good luck to the O/P

does your embassy provide a Statement of Income? The Irish embassy does and I use that rather than a Thai bank statement. Worth looking into.

- Is a "Wise" transfer into a Thai bank from abroad an accepted method?

I do all my transfers through Wise and they show as international transfer. Interestingly when applying for my extension the IO dud not seem interested in this and asked me for proof of where the funds had come from. I provided my uk bank statements with which they tied up money out with money in and were happy. Next year I will also have my Wise proof of transfer documents to hand as well.

have you checked recently? My last 2 months the entry for cash transferred from Wise has changed from International transfer to some new code.

I have been unable to check since May when access to my banking app (no prizes for guessing which bank) was denied. I'm back next month and I am hoping uts OK.

only IF you can prove that the transfers originated from abroad. That's not a topic for the group, sorry, that's between you/wise and your receiving bank

depends on the bank ,if you withdraw from that balance you are in breach of your visa obligations.

now if you are using banked money method where you have the 800K banked you DO definitely need to follow the rules about when and how much you can access the account (y) because failing to do that will definitely run you amuck the following year when you go for the next extension

you are 100% not correct, πŸ™ doesn't depend on the bank at all, they don't set visa regulations, immigrations does

This is how it works

If you are using monthly income via transfer method for a retirement extension the requirement is you transfer in a minimum of 65K baht a month from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only, each month, every month for the previous 12 months,

There is abso-tively, posi-lutely ZERO obligation to keep even a baht of that transferred money in your account once it credits.

You only show a year of incoming monthly transfers to get your next extension NOT any required balance on the account

you can use monthly income method for your initial in country Non-O visa or the first year extension ONLY if you come from a country whose embassy still issues the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter.

Otherwise you have to have the minimum amount transferred in from abroad to a thai bank account in your name, each month, every month for the previous 12 months

and

you have to be on the same visa/extension when you do the transfers.

What that means is you couldn't start transferring funds in, live here on free stamps, etc for a year then try to apply for the in country Non-O or yearly extension because those previous transfers were done when you were on another entry type and don't count πŸ˜•

initial 90 day Non-O visa/first year extension if you're from a country that doesn't issue the income affidavit here can be by banked money method only

cool. So it’s not like when you first apply needing to show it’s a pension or social security? They are just concerned about the THB amount?

taxes would be an issue. SS benefits for Americans and some other government pensions for other countries are Thai tax exempt.
