Hi

I hope you are well.

I am from the UK and I work remotely for a recruitment firm, I want to apply for a DTV Visa but I also want to vlog my fitness journey while I am in Thailand. I will not receive any income from Thai companies but I will be including Thai companies in my videos i.e. Virgin Active Bangkok for example. Is this ok?

Just to be clear again I will NOT receive any income from Thai businesses for my vlogs, all my income will be foreign and from outside of Thailand.
Answer summary
The user, a UK national on a DTV Visa, inquired about vlogging their fitness journey in Thailand without receiving income from Thai companies. Responses indicate that while filming content may technically be seen as work, many believe enforcement is lax, especially if no payment is received from Thai sources. Some advice suggests seeking legal clarification, while others emphasize being cautious about the potential perception of promoting Thai businesses.

As long as your income comes from abroad and you pay your taxes you'll be fine. But you can double check with a lawyer if you are worried. They will answer for free in most cases.

Getting money or not is not important, it is technically within the definition of work, so you should be carefull with it. I don't expect active enforcing here, but when your vlog can be seen as promotion for a Thai company, another jealous Thai company could inform authorities.

You are overcomplicating it, and you will get rejected. Pay for a soft power courses and apply. Then do your thing

A) This is considered work even if you receive no income, so John and others are correct, while Pete is incorrect.

B) But nobody care, meaning that it's not enforced. For example, if you walk in the street and sing to your camera and put on YT, it's fine. But, if you go to a bar and do the same thing every night, even if not paid, it will be perceived as working and they are cracking down on that. Any act of hiring someone even if not paid need a work permit, but again, some things are enforced and some aren't. For example, volunteering at a dog shelter without work permit is illegal but not enforced.

Sujy Sujaree enforcement might always be triggered by others, like a competing gym or so.

I think perhaps you didnt word it well. If you are promoting the gym maybe that could be considered working. But if you are just filming yourself working out then it is not.

idiotsomchai It is not about wording of OP, but what authorities think. When it looks like promotion for a gym, another gym might inform authorities.

Legally that is working in Thailand, whether you make money from it or not is irrelevant.

that's legally not working in Thailand.

As long as he didn't receive income inside Thaïlande from thai clients, legally, it's fine.

I can speak from experience as someone who has a long term visa and a lawyer!

However promoting a business in Thailand even for free might be suspicious! So you have to make it clear that you are not receiving compensation.

receiving income or any other benefit is not a requirement to be seen as working in Thailand. Why do you think volunteer visas exist?

because volunteering is classed as work, so you need both a visa and a work permit. Feel free to go and look at the various laws yourself but start with the definition of work which is pretty much all encompassing then the bit that says nobody can work without a work permit unless given explicit permission to do so. In the case of visas ONLY the DTV based on Workation and the LTR Remote Worker visas provide that permission

to volunteer? 😅 Lol I don't know tbh it's better he talks with a lawyer but mine was very straightforward about this question.

Maybe you have the exact sentence mentioned in Thai lajor lows that says it's not legal?

Yes you’re fine to do that …..

rule no1 don’t listen to anyone commenting with a nickname or from a profile with no profile picture like the 2 above

You are comply fine to do what you said in the comments as Lin had your primary work is the non Thai company + you have dtv to cover that

Content creation you don’t need work permit or visa ……..

Just take a look in instagram or YouTube and you can see that ….,,

Don’t worry too much and relax and enjoy a little

You do need a work permit for content creation in Thailand, but its not enforced yet, which is an important nuance. So you are right to not worry, but incorrect to state thatr its legal.
