Just curious, I’m applying for non O visa based on marriage in Vientiane. I know the income requirement is 40k bht, I meet this and is being auto deposited in a bank in the U.S every month. Would a print out of bank statement from my bank back home showing this be enough?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for financial proof when applying for a Non-O visa based on marriage in Vientiane varies. Generally, the Single Entry Non-O visa does not require financial proof, while the 1-year Multiple Entry Non-O visa requires a minimum bank balance of 400,000 Baht or a monthly income verification of 40,000 Baht deposited into a Thai bank account. Although some sources state that a bank statement from a US bank can demonstrate income, it is primarily necessary to show these funds in a Thai account to meet immigration requirements, especially for extensions.

There are different ways:

1. Get a Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National, you can get this by conversion from Visa Exempt Entry or Tourist Visa at most Immigration Office, discuss this option with your office.

2. Get a Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National at a Thai Consulate and get 90 days of Stay on entry, after 60 days apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay at your local immigration, visit them for their list with requirements

3. Get a 1 year Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National from a Thai Consulate and get on each entry 90 days of stay during the validity of this visa.

On all three options there is the possibility to apply for an Extension of Stay of 60 days to visit family.

Difference, with option 1 and 2 you need the meet the requirements of the Immigration Office and one of these are 400.000 Thb in a Thai bank or monthly 40.000 Thb income. Benefit of Extension of Stay is you make 90 day reports at Immigration.

Benefits of 1 year multiple Visa is you have to take short holidays every 90 days to leave and come back, depending on country you might need extra visa on arrival for that country, which takes extra space in your passport.

income needs to be shown as foreign deposit into a Thai bank account in your name. US banks do not meet requirements.

thank you. I like option 2 so I don’t have to do trips outside every 3 months. As far as showing funds and income, I don’t have a Thai bank account but my income is deposited in my U.S. account every month. We’ll meet the 40k requirement monthly but does it need to be deposited in a Thai bank every month or immigration just needs to see I have income? Will a statement work from my home bank?

My wife is saying it’s better to get the 90 day non O visa first time then extend at immigration inside Thailand for 1 year and not have to go outside every 3 months with 1 year extension. This way you can get 15 month total?

THIS is the list of documents you need to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa in Savannakhet Lao

you need

-the original rose bordered marriage certificate

copies of:

-front&back of the rose bordered marriage certificate

-front&back of your thai wife's i/d card

-thai wife's house book listing

-data page of your passport

-lao visa & entry stamp

you also need 2 passport sized photos,a filled out application along with 5000baht.

She signs the things with her name on them, you sign the things with yours <- meaning you BOTH sign the marriage certificate copies ;)

Good Luck (y)

, unless you're going to apply for a yearly extension of stay at your immigration office INSIDE the country after you get the 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage by meeting the proof of funds (either banking 400K baht in a thai bank in your name only for 2 months before you apply OR by transferring IN to a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 40K baht each month every month for the previous 12 months) there is no advantage to getting that 90 day single entry Non-O visa.

You are way better off going to the thai consulates in Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh CIty Vietnam and getting a year-long, multi-entry Non-O that you are not required to show proof of funds on.

thank you everyone for your advice. Looks like I’m going to Savannakhet for a one year multi entry.

Wait a minute, vientiane will ask for a bank statement if you have had this kind of visa from them before/ back to back. They only offer a single entry.

Savannakhet do not ask for proof of funds and also offer a multiple entry visa for 5000 baht.

AFAIK, they are only asking for a bank book when you get a Non-O based on raising half thai children and have them back to back. I do not believe they ask for proof of funds when getting a 90 day single entry Non-O based on marriage to a thai

There is no proof of money or financial requirements for the Non O Married to Thai at Savannakhet and Ho Chi Minh City.

No, in Vientiane they do not ask for financial proofs if you apply for the Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage and if you apply for the 1 year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage the financial proof is a minimum bank balance of 400.000 Thb.

The monthly income method is only accepted for applications of Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office
