TLDR : Answer Summary
Holders of 800K baht in a Thai bank account must ensure the funds are liquid and accessible, meaning that fixed-term deposits like CDs are generally not acceptable. While some users discuss different bank options and interest rates, they emphasize that the money must be in a Thai bank and readily available to meet immigration requirements for extending a stay. Immigration officials should be consulted for specific financial products that might meet the requirements.

So stay in US and enjoy your interest. Thailand is for people who are not money focused. It's a place to relax and enjoy life

I read a fixer can deal with the 800k deposit for you.

So i went to several agents in Pattaya and they were offering the same deal. The retirement visa fees were going to be an extra 10k
Neale *********
They said I don't need to deposit the 800k, so I can keep the money in the UK or in my business making money instead of stuck in a Thai bank account

You are out of the scope of my question. I have no interest in Agents. This is an offering by my Thai bank.

@Jon *******
no need to , it was just an option offered but you don't want that so fine , 800k is needed in a thai bank account not in anything else

Huh? I have the money so what would an agent do?
Christopher *************
@Jon *******
you don't need the money with an agent , so can invest it else where

that's what I mean. I'm reluctant for my money just sitting around doing nothing.

My business is trading crypto currencies so it will make alot more money in Bitcoin etc than in a Thai bank account

BTW, which bank is offering 5% interest. I hope it a reputable bank as the depositor protection is close to nothing. I remember a story 2 years ago where a bank employee raid 100's of Farang account.

I use SCB Easi Pass offers 2.5% and acceptable to Immig even though there is no passbook all online bank provides letter and statement

No, cannot be in a fixed term deposit account. It must be something that is immediately accessible, like a savings or checking account.

@Garrett **********
For a fixed term deposit account funds can be withdrawn immediately but no interest will be paid if withdrawal is done before the duration of the term. Many retirees use fixed term deposit account for the 800k deposit....

@Per *********
No, you cannot go to an ATM and withdraw money from your CD. You have to go to the bank and close the CD. Just like a stock, bond, or ETH. You have to sell the asset/investment before you can access the money. Fixed term deposit accounts cannot be used

@Garrett **********
That is a good point. A fixed term CD account can be broken but there is a captial risk if not held until maturity. So it depends on what immigration says in acceptable.

@Jon *******
fixed term deposit accounts are not allowed.

if u need this money for 12-month extension of stay, the money must be in a Thai bank and must be liquid funds.

My io was clear. It can be an interesting bearing account but must be instantly accessible- I chose government savings bank because they give interest and a monthly lottery plus they write the letter to immigration that meets requirements,

@Julian ******
Which bank is that? I only know of the commercial banks. Thanks

it’s ok. I only just opened my account, I will be transferring from an elite visa to a marriage visa , i live very rurally and the only westerner in the municipality, they said I was the first ferrang to open an account with them but they were exceptionally helpful and professional, I already won 600 baht in the monthly lottery and I’m guaranteed a win of some amount every month because I deposited 500k baht

@David ***
it’s the pink bank.

you need to ask your Immigration if they accept it
