Can I travel outside Thailand during the initial 90 days of my Non-O Retirement e-visa?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I plan to apply for the Non-O Retirement e-visa outside Thailand. I will enter Thailand using this e-visa, open a Thai bank account, transfer THB800,000 (or more) from my non-Thai overseas bank into my Thai bank account to season it for the extension application.

During the initial 90 days, can I travel back to my home country, or do I have to stay in Thailand until my extension application is completed? If I can travel back, do I return to Thailand using the first Non-O e-visa or come in on visa exempt ? Thanks

Update : Thanks for the helpful comments. Will get the re-entry permit so I can leave Thailand during the initial 90-day e-visa period (will check with Immigration office if this is possible too).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual plans to apply for a Non-O Retirement e-visa from abroad and seeks clarification on traveling during the initial 90 days. They confirm that they can travel back to their home country if they obtain a re-entry permit. Upon returning, they must use the same Non-O e-visa to re-enter Thailand. Comments provide additional insights on banking practices and emphasize the need for a good account strategy to ease the extension application.

No need to check with them ๐Ÿ™‚ Come in on the eVisa 90 day Non-O, when you go to fly out buy the single re-entry permit at the airport they have re-entry permit counters open
****
.

At DMK or BKK you can pay 1200 baht (200baht more than the re-entry permit costs) and just give them the passport, (no copies, no form, no passport photo needed).. They'll issue you the re-entry permit on the spot.

I'd suggest the separate bank account just for the retirement deposit. keep it clean and free from other transactions. 1year statement needed for each year's Extension of Stay will be one page and very easy for the immigration officer to review (making them happy).

Just so everyone is clear

These choices on the eVisa website are

That choice is the 10 year Non-OX visa

That choice is the 1 year Non-OA visa

***Keep in mind both of these require background check, mandatory medical insurance, proof of funds, etc

This is the one you select if you want to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement/marriage to a thai, raising thai children

You'll get 90 days when you enter, you get the funds transferred into a thai bank account in your name only, you let it season the required 2 months and then you apply for a year extension at the immigration office where you live/stay.

okay everyone needs to understand that since all the thai consulates in the world went to the eVisa online web-portal there is no longer an option to select anything other than a 90 day single entry Non-O based on retirement or marriage or raising children

That's the only choice you get 90 day single entry.

The days of getting those year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas where you bounced out/back every 90 days for the year are long gone now..

no worries, I personally don't know why they discontinued the year/multi Non-O because it really helped a LOT of people who have FIFO or work rotation jobs.. ๐Ÿ˜•

you want to leave during the first 90 days stay permit before you will apply for the 1-year extension, this means you need to buy a singe re-entry permit for the initial 90-days stay permit on "your" Immigration, that's the stay permit you get stamped into your passport when you enter on the Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa

Good idea getting the 90 day Non-O visa from the thai consulate in your country first, that will make opening the bank account a LOT easier here

Once you get the 90 day Non-O visa issued IF you want to exit/re-enter the country you would need to buy a re-entry permit from the immigration office or the airport before you fly out.

That would keep your stamp 'alive' and you'd get stamped in for the same expiration date as you had when the 90 day Non-O was issued to you.

The re-entry permit will not add any time to your 90 day Non-O stamp, only let you exit/re-enter on it and get the same expiration date. Also the re-entry permit will only be valid for that 90 day stamp.

Once you get your year extension, you'd buy a re-entry permit that will be valid for the whole year your extension is valid for
