Can I transfer 400k Baht to Thailand in two transactions for my NON-O extension based on marriage?

Need to transfer 400k for my nonO extension based on marriage through WISE.

Malaysian bank regulations stated that max per transfer not more than MYR30k per/day = +-227k Baht.

Would it be a problem if I make it into TWO transfer of 200k Baht per/day?

And, reason I should choose long terms living expenses right, as to mark it as international transfer, to Kasikorn Bank in this case.

Thanks 🙏🏻

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about transferring 400,000 Baht for a Non-O visa extension based on marriage, facing limitations of Malaysian bank regulations that allow a maximum transfer of 30,000 MYR (approximately 227,000 Baht) per day. The discussion clarifies that it is acceptable to split the transfer into two transactions of 200,000 Baht each per day. Furthermore, there are insights shared about the requirement of showing funds, particularly suggesting that for a marriage visa, the funds do not necessarily need to be labeled as an international transfer. The community emphasizes that the money just needs to be in the Thai bank account for the requisite duration before the visa application.

Why don't you use Malaysian bank to transfer directly to Thai bank? I have used CIMB & Maybank to transfer to SCB and vice versa. It's more secure to do bank-to-bank transfer instead of using 3rd party like Wise. As long as you use the same account holder name, I don't think you will encounter any issue other than MYR30k/day limit.

Because of the better exchange rate when using Wise.

The rate at xe.com might be better at

. But you must check if they actually label it as a foreign transfer.

i have checked both MBB and HSBC on Swift transfer method. For 400-500k Baht, such significant in terms of difference rates between banks and Wise. I can say plus minus about MYR2-3k more than Wise rate.

no problem whatsoever. Make sure its in your Thai bank for 2 months before you apply. Yes choose the long term option with Wise

as long as my end of day balance for both month more than 400k should not be an issue right? Because I’m using the account for my daily usage too.

I transfered to kasikorn then resent it from kasikorn to krungsri that I have used for the visa and they didn't care . Marriage visa as well. They will give you 3 months as long as it's deposited there when you apply then you get 1 year extension as long as the money was there over 2 months . It doesn't have to come from abroad for marriage visa

for all the while, i thought it has to come and flagged as international transfer. Then from wise, the reason could be any choice, not necessarily to choose as funds for long term stay in Thai. Am i right?

I heard ppl discussing this but it's not stated on the form with requirements they gave me , it only mentioned 400k balance on bank account, the source of funds might be related to other types of visas . Also they want pictures of u with ur wife even for the original 3 months visa and proof of being single prior to the visa, online everyone said it's for the extension only lol. Don't worry about the source of funds for nonO marriage tho

i think that depends on your IO mood. They can ask or change anything as they wish

Remitly is another money transfer app that works just like wise.

@Sara *******
i know. The only matter for me is the Malaysian bank regulations only max MYR30k per/day transfer.

You should check Western Union as well. If I transfer more than $5000 Australian Dollars to Thai Baht western union pays out a fair bit more than Wise. For Australian bank accounts Wise is best for small transfers under approx 110,000 Baht and Western Union is best for large transfers. On the 400,000 baht it could save you a few thousand baht

I’ll take a look WU as well.

For the marriage visa the money doesn’t have to show as an international transfer.
Peter **********
@Pete ******
That’s correct and when you convert to retirement one year after the marriage visa you still don’t need to prove international origin of the funds.

i never knew about this before. For extension based on marriage, money 400k can be from Thai itself?
Shaughn ***********
@Adam ********
if this were true it would be disadvantaging a rich Thai sugar mumma who’s sponsoring her young poor toy boy for marriage and move to Thailand to be with her purposes.
Peter **********
@Adam ********
It can be whatever as long as it’s 1) 400k baht or more, 2) in an account in your name, 3) immediately available.

(As per Immigration Office Sakon Nakhon. Ymmv)

You can do two uploads to Wise then one transfer to your Thai account

It's "Funds for long term stay in Thailand".

@Max ************
yeah my mistake. Appreciate for clarifying for me.

@Max ************
only necessary for an initial Non-O retirement visa
Max *************
@Graham *****
I corrected his post.And the reason "Funds for long term stay in Thailand" is very important, not only for the correct type of visa at immigration,but for the possibility to repatriate money in a Thai bank if you decide to go back home. The 400k or 800k must be transferred from abroad.

but I’m based on marriage and not retirement visa

@Graham *****
So for Non-O based on marriage, any of the reason choices no issue?
Max *************
@Adam ********
Always go for "Funds for long........." regardless of the reason for the transfer, especially when sending large amounts.
Adam *********

@Max ************
I’ll keep a note on that. Bit confusing, someone here mentioned that money 400k for marriage, does not need to come from abroad.
Max *************
@Adam ********
It's not always about the visa. Think ahead. Showing up as international/foreign in your account is ALWAYS a plus.

@Max ************
appreciate it buddy. Thanks for the advice.
Max *************
@Adam ********
After a few, maybe just a couple of transfers via Wise, you won't have to chose reason yourself if using same reason. Wise will use the previous one automatically. For me "Funds for long term........." is always there. I just have to enter the amount. Pretty neat imo.

@Max ************
sometimes maybe we tend to forget to change the reason hence why it becomes default i guessed.
Max *************
@Adam ********
Yes, but you never need to change the reason if you're banking with Bangkok Bank or KBank. Like I said, it's important when sending larger amounts.
Scotty *******
Won't be a problem as long as the 400,000 is in there for 2 months prior to the extension
