Hello. I am currently in Thailand on a 6 Month ED Visa. After that, I want to get a Tourist Visa. Do I have to leave the Country or can I apply for that here in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about transitioning from a 6 Month ED Visa to a Tourist Visa in Thailand. Comments clarify that to obtain a Tourist Visa, it is necessary to leave the country and apply at a Thai consulate, as such visas cannot be applied for from within Thailand.
There is no such thing as a 6 month ED visa. :/ Did you get a 90 day ED visa and then extend it for 3 months at the immigration office for 1900baht using documentation from your school?
IF you did you would have to go to the immigration office and cancel the ED extension you're on before you leave the country to go get a tourist visa from a thai consulate
And no you can't get a tourist visa for thailand inside of thailand, you get them at a thai consulate in another country.
Then you should go to the immigration office with documentation from your school and cancel your extension BEFORE you leave the country. Just get a letter from your school saying the day you are leaving the country is the last day you are studying, and go to the immigration office a few days before. They will cancel the extension and stamp you to leave on the day on the letter from the school.
you have to leave the country to get the 30 day Visa Exempt, apply for the 60-day SETV or 6-month METV...the only tourist visa you don't need to leave country for is the Thai Elite Visa...
