Hello everyone

Did anyone ever do a changing of visa from visa exempt/tourist visa to a 90 days non O visa (married to a thai) inside thailand ?

I went to immigration with all the documents and did the application. Got a note from the immigration officer in my passport that says "in process of changing visa. And the date I was there. That was all.

No information about when to come back to get my stamp.

My visa exempt stamp is finshed in 3 days now. (I had enough days left when I did the application)

And I wonder if anyone have done this process and if I am allowed to stay here and wait for my 90 days non o stamp even though my exemption stamp has expierd?

And how will I know when the visa is finished for me to go back and get the stamp?

Any one knows ?

I sadly cant just go there and ask as I live on an island 2 hour boat from immigration and ive tried calling but no answer.

Any help is so appriciated. πŸ™β˜ΊοΈ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user asked about the process of changing their visa from a tourist visa to a 90-day Non-O visa (married to a Thai) while already in Thailand. They are concerned about staying legally in the country as their visa exemption will expire soon despite having applied for the new visa. Several comments suggest checking for a temporary extension or date on the receipt provided by immigration, confirming it usually allows stay while the application processes, and reaching out for further information if needed.

You don't have an exemption stamp. You don't get one at that point. You should have something either mentioned to you verbally or on the blue receipt you were given that provides the date for you to return to get the visa stamped in your passport. If you don't know that date for whatever reason contact your immigration office and ask them. Don't wait

Calling your local immigration office. Or getting somebody to call for you. Is an other option of gaining information.

Technically no, if there is no stamp in your passport with a consideration date, then your permission to stay ends on the date in your passport as normal, because there is nothing in your passport giving you additional time. I would probably go back to Krabi on your last day if you cannot get ahold of them.

my hustband finally got a hold of them. My visa is not finished yet they say and they know my visa exempt stamp is finsihed now on sunday. They told him I can go there on Monday (so I will overstay 1 day?!) and get my new stamp. Does this sound correct? Im so nervous as we have two small babies Im scared of any problems. Thank you πŸ™πŸ™

If that's what they said then that's fine. Your last day is on a weekend, so it's no problem because Monday is the first day that they're back open.

I think Brandon will agree, since the Imm Office is NOT open on the day your Stamp expires, you should NOT get an overstay in your passport and should Not have to pay the Overstay fee (Normally 500 Baht)

The overstay wouldn't matter regardless because the immigration office specifically said the extension isn't ready and to come in on Monday. The situation you are talking about is if your permission to stay expires on a day the immigration office is closed and you go to apply for the extension on the next day it's open, but this person has already applied for the extension.

I think you need to look at your passport again. The "under consideration" stamp will have a date on it. The date on the stamp should be your temporary extension until you receive the full one. Though normally for a conversion, it will still be within the days of your normal permission to stay. You should also have received a blue slip of paper which is your receipt, and that may have the date for you to return as well.
