I’m plan on moving to Bangkok at the end of June with my adult son who had Autism. I’m applying for a Non O retirement Visa. My question is?
Can I sponsor him ? and if so, what requirements will be needed?
Or is there another option.
TIA
Answer summary
The user plans to move to Bangkok with their adult son who has Autism and is seeking advice on whether they can sponsor him for a visa under a Non O Retirement Visa. Responses indicate that sponsoring an adult child on this visa is not possible. Alternatives such as the Thai Privilege visa or finding a suitable visa for the son are discussed, and there are suggestions about potential medical exemptions, though they may be difficult to secure. Overall, the community emphasizes that the son will need to apply for his own visa and meet financial and care requirements.

You can not sponsor anyone with an Non O Retirement visa. If your son is less than. 20 years old, you can sponsor him with a Non O-A Retirement visa from your home country, but if he is over 20 then you will need to get an agent to see if he qualifies for a medical exemption, which are issued on a case by case basis. You will need to show ample passive income to cover both of your expenses, plus insurance, etc. Thai insurance companies are very expensive and very shadey and don't like to cover pre existing conditions, so you may end up paying a lot for his care. Unfortunately this system isnt set up for anyone with special needs.
He will need his own visa. And resources. They need to be sure he won’t be a financial liability, autistic or not.
My daughter is also on the spectrum (AuDhd).. and the requirements aren’t any different. You can sponsor a legally married spouse.. they still need to qualify and have their own visa and requirements.
Ypu cannot sponsor him. But, perhaps the least costly and easiest visa for him would be the DTV. Soft power medical would likely work out easily for him. But you would need to co-ordinate his care with an accredited facility in Thailand and have a physician provide a 6-12 month treatment plan. His bank account would need to reflect the 500k baht balance in his name only.
Your son is an adult, he will need to find his own visa. Not easy in the circumstances so a Thai Privilege visa may be the best option although relatively expensive
