TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual asks whether they can renew their retirement visa in Thailand or if they must return to South Africa for the renewal. Comments clarify that rather than "renewing" a visa, one can apply for an extension of stay in Thailand or return home to obtain a new visa. If they hold a Non-OA visa, they can potentially extend it at the local immigration office with the required documents.

All wrong !!! If you have a Non-OA Visa, you go to the Immigration where you stay and bring all the necessary documents and renew.

You can obtain a list which documents are required either online or by the Immigration office.

Er… Wrong. They could apply for an extension of stay at immigration. They would not be “renewing” their visa. It’s impossible to do so.

Do you have a Non-OA or a Non-O Visa? You say renew at the end of the year so it sounds like a 12 month Non-OA Visa. If so, just before your Visa expires (Visa not entry stamp), purchase new insurance and do a border bounce to get a new 12 month entry stamp.

Contrary to popular belief and wording used in these forums you cannot renew a visa.

You can return home (or go to another embassy/consulate) and buy a new visa or you can apply for an extension of stay based on your initial visa if you meet the requirements to do so.
