Hello, When you provide bank statements for proof of funds could you black out the bank account number or at least part of it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether it is acceptable to redact sensitive information, like bank account numbers, on bank statements provided as proof of funds for visa applications. Most comments affirm that redaction is possible and sometimes advisable due to privacy concerns, although requirements can vary by embassy. Users share personal experiences regarding their submissions and the reactions from embassies, indicating that while some embassies accept redacted documents, others may require full disclosure. Overall, the consensus leans towards minimizing the exposure of sensitive information while ensuring compliance with the respective embassy's requirements.

After i sold my house my account got hacked. Someone knew i had a big balance? coincidence? maybe but scumbags have proliferated in recent years and I trust nobody. REDACT as much as you can

I have always only submitted redacted bank statements. Redacted almost everything expect my name and the opening and closing amount of the bank statement. Clearly neither bank account number and certainly not the details of individual transactions are their business. Might depend on the laws of the country you are applying in, though.
It is not just the bank account. They will have a copy of my Identity card, address, phone number plus all bank details. One can do a lot of damage with all this info here in Asia.
If you use your phone number expect all the scam callers to start calling you from the scam call centre's and if you have WhatsApp you'll get scam messages offering you jobs.
I never give out my phone number. Only friends and family have it. After i used my phone number on my application all this scam calling started.

It is easier just to blank it out. If they want something more then they will contact me back. Contacting them to ask them questions is like waiting on a letter from a dead man. The thing is since the DTV is a new visa even they are not sure what they need in the beginning.
I done this and the London embassy asked me to resubmit the file without blacking out the details. It may be different depending on the embassy you're applying through.
Even bank advise you that you can freely share your account number

Sorry - your FULL unredacted financial and personal information. Not just one number alone. Passport info page, full bank account number, sort code, bank address, all transactions as shown on your statement, home address, foreign address, etc.
In other words, everything that you would be giving to the consulate in one go. Because they don't simply have one set of bank account digits in isolation, they will have your full details in combination with your ID, personal details and everything else.
I don't intend to do anything with this myself of course, but if you think my request is nuts and you're suddenly hesitant to post every single thing on that list and more altogether, then you understand the point.
in the US you can setup ACH payments from a bank account with nothing but the account number and routing number. That's why it always feels so strange in Thailand when everyone just hands out their account number
well USA still use cheque so I’m not surprised that you can do wonders with just bank account numbers.
In EU you can do absolutely nothing but receive money on your account if you share your account numbers. Even bank advises you that you can freely share you account number if some unknown person needs to send you money
