Can I receive a visa exemption a third time when traveling to Singapore and back to Thailand?

Hello! I wanted to have your opinion on my situation, it would be helpful if some of you could share your experiences

I came to thailand on May 2nd and benefited from a 2 month visa exemption

On May 17th I had to come back to my home country (France) and came back on May 21st.

When I came back, a new stamp has been done on my passport so I have been given a second visa exemption until August 21st

In September, I will go to Vietnam to apply for my DTV Visa

But in the meantime, next week, I will go to Singapour (come back on August 18th so before my visa exemption expires)

I’m thinking maybe that could seem suspicious to immigration agents

1) Do you know if I can be granted a visa exemption a third time?

2) Should I go to the immigration next week to get a visa exemption extension (+1 month)? In your experience, is this easy to get and how long does it usually take to wait at the immigration (will I be done at 12 if I get there when it opens)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat in Thailand shared their travel history and concerns about re-entering Thailand after a trip to Singapore, questioning the possibility of receiving a third visa exemption and seeking advice on extending their current visa. Commenters provided insights on obtaining a 30-day extension at immigration before leaving Thailand and advised on the potential risks of being questioned upon re-entry. They suggested having proof of onward travel to Vietnam and mentioned services for fast-tracking immigration processes.

suggest that before you return from Singapore you have made a reservation for your flight to VN - print out that confirmation - don't offer it until and if asked when you return. I entered in Jan for 2 weeks, then May for 3 weeks and then early June for 5+ weeks when I left for the purpose of filing and obtaining my DTV visa - I was not questioned at all during any entry. When I returned with the DTV visa (approved and issued) I had a print out with me and presented it when I got to the agent - no problem at all Once you have it you need to present the physical copy each time you enter - I asked the agent this question directly and that is what he confirmed. You should be fine - but do be sure you have booked your flight to VN before you come back from SIA - Air Asia is a good option and inexpensive.

You SHOULD be ok. When I was in Thailand earlier this year, after a couple of weeks I went to Cambodia for a few days, came to Thailand for a couple of more weeks, then went to Vietnam for a few days, and then came back to Thailand. On that last entry from Vietnam the IO did ask me how long I planned to stay in Thailand "this time." I was able to say that I only had 11 more days and then I'm going home to America. I suspect if I had planned to stay longer he would've given me a warning. He didn't ask to see my ticket back to the US, but, if you haven't already done so, you should buy your ticket to Vietnam and be ready to show them.

Don’t leave Thailand until you have used the 30 day extension option, easy done at the nearest Immigration office for 1900 baht, which also is cheaper than leaving Thailand with the risk being denied entry.

Why you dont apply for a tourist visa while you are out? Makes it easier...

You could have the vietnam ticket ready and explain the IO about your plans to go and get a proper visa. I would think that they understand, they can grant you shorter stamp too until your planned trip, if they dont want to give the full exempt

Frankly I believe that you are at great risk of being questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival from Singapore and possible DENIED entry.

If you have the 30 day extension available to you from your local Thai Immigration office, get it...

AND buy a single reentry permit...

Which will grant you entry on your return from Singapore with a STAMPED ending date same as the 30 days extension you obtained.

Or...

Contact a Fast Track Service Company to ASK them if they accept you for Fast Track Service upon your arrival from Singapore.

You will get a NEW 60 day stamp as Visa Exempt Entry.

Tell them your passport nation, recent history of entries into Thailand, whether you have been DENIED entry before or are on ok OVERSTAY.

Here's the largest BORDER BOUNCE service company which also offers Fast Track Service in Phuket, oth airports in Bangkok and the Chiang Mai Airport.

Anonymous participant and be careful as Thai immigration officers likely will question you on your return, even with a New Thai tourist visa. Be prepared for questions.

thank you! What is the difference between a visa exemption and the single reentry permit? I mean, if I get the visa exemption at Bangkok immigration before leaving, isn’t it enough?
James ********
Anonymous participant you don't get a Visa Exemption when you leave Thailand...

Visa Exempt is ONLY when you arrive in Thailand and your nations passport holders qualify for it.

A single reentry permit can be purchased at your local Thai Immigration office for 1000 Thai baht, or at the Airport before you leave Thailand. 1000 or 1200 Thai baht.

Are you going to Singapore just to get another Visa Exemption or do you needs/want to be there? If just for the new VE why not just get a 30 day extension at Immigration. If you need/want to go you should be fine entering again on another exemption.

When I came back in June, I have been told that sometimes people can be asked for a proof that they are going to leave Thailand within 60 days - that’s what I originally booked the flight. But it’s also my vacation, I really want to discover Singapore!

Anonymous participant Book an onward ticket. A bus from Nong Khai to Vietiene is about 140 Baht online. Enjoy Singapore. I lived and worked there for just over 10 years.

I also plan to go to Hanoi in September to get my DTV Visa so I might rather buy a ticket to go there! I am just afraid to be denied entry as I already got two visa exemptions since May 😅

Oh, really? Nice!! I really look forward to it! Don’t hesitate if you have recommendations 😀
