I have a problem with the health insurance company that issued the policy I am required to have for my long stay (OX) visa . Because I am over 65, they required me to have a very comprehensive checkup/report that cost several thousand Baht (and then listed a dozen or so conditions they will not cover, with no price reduction). They stated clearly (in an email) that a defined portion of the checkup/report costs would be refunded to me if the cover went ahead, but after a couple months they claim to have made a mistake and will not make the defined refund.

Is it possible to pursue the company for the promised ~ 5,000b ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An individual facing challenges with their health insurance policy required for a long stay (OX) visa in Thailand is seeking advice on pursuing a refund of approximately 5,000 baht for costs associated with a required medical checkup. The insurance company initially promised a refund but later denied it, claiming a mistake. Responses from the community suggest avenues such as directly asking the company, potentially filing a civil suit (while noting the cost implications), or reporting the issue to immigration authorities for assistance. There are also comments reflecting frustration with the insurance system, highlighting the perceived inadequacy of coverage offered.

Just don't make a claim. I was insured for 1.5 million. I had surgery for 600K and they paid without any problems. When renewal time came, they simply threw me out as I "was too expensive to have".

i have been with Aetna for years (prior was Bupa) prior turning 60 my premium was about 70 per year now i just got a renewal because i am over 60 thb 110,000 per annum and i really have never had a claim or issue here... u just got to love the way they do business.. my wife who just turned 50 has had enormous claims from both Bupa now Aetna over the past 10 yrs and paying 70K she had major hip replacement 1.1 mill thb and a few major medical issues all paid by Bupa/Aetna and its still 70K so at least i am getting my moneys worth from her and the insurance companies...

Oh no! We're all caught in this web. Any way around, I'm in the same predicament on my next yearly renewal. Sad so sad.

It is useless insurance which you must write off as additional OA/OX fee

It’s a farce the insurance that you must have but they exclude various conditions which renders the policy practically worthless so in fact you are paying for a very expensive piece of paperwork.

leave it and move on with lesson learned.

Yes, you could file a civil suit against them. However in Thailand, in most cases you're not entitled to legal fees in civil judgments like you are in other countries. As a result, it will cost you more than 5k baht to pursue a case. But you could.

Have you made a complaint to immigration? Others may disagree, but I'd start there.

Just from being in Thailand, my answer would be 😂😂😂
