Below is their response, which includes my original question. I will test this next Monday. I will be using my passport, birth certificate, drivers license, and a TM30.

I will report the outcome.

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the challenges faced by an expat, George Grisancich, in opening a bank account in Thailand on a tourist visa. Despite receiving a detailed response from Bangkok Bank indicating the necessary documents for account opening, including identification and proof of purpose, the comments highlight that banks have discretion, and it may not be straightforward for those without a work or retirement visa. General consensus suggests that it is easier with appropriate visas and may require additional assistance or navigating through various branches.

Each branch does there own thing there’s not set rules ,some ask for you to buy accident insurance some just say no
Jan ******************
Short story, only Non Immigrant visas in both categories; 1. Foreigner who are working AND 2. Foreigners planning to retire.

You probably still need to get an agent to assist you when you come.

@Jan *****************
we did use an agent at a cost of 5000bahts of which 1250 Bahts is deposited in your bank account.

There's not really any news here. It's always been super easy to get a bank account if you have a work permit, and somewhat easy if you already have a retirement visa.

They clearly say anything else is up to the discretion of the bank, which is what has always been reported. You have to try dozens of banks before MAYBE you'll find one that will do it for you, but they are under no obligation to do so as there is no policy for opening an account for a tourist. It's at the complete decision of that bank branch's manager and staff.

@Brandon ***********
also, they do specifically state that a tourist stamp is not valid to open an account.

When they say it's not a valid document for opening an account, I assume they mean it's not something you can use as one of the required documents. But it's possible they mean they will not open accounts for tourist visas as well I suppose.
