TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about opening a bank account in Samui without paying for insurance, as they are planning to retire in Thailand next year. Responses indicate that some banks, like Bangkok Bank, allow tourists to open accounts with the necessary certified documents from their embassy. While some banks may offer insurance during the account opening process, it is not a requirement. Users recommend going to different bank branches if facing challenges in Samui.

Not sure what you mean by not paying insurance?, Yes some banks will try to sell you insurance when opening a bank account, but my advise is go to the another bank as insurance is not requirement for opening a bank account.
basically that’s the $100 bribe to get the account.

Bangkok bank let's tourists open accounts, go ask them their requirements. It's basically a form certified by your embassy that your passport is genuine.
