Has anyone successfully obtained a Thai Tax Residency Certificate while on a DTV?
I’m specifically asking about the Tax Residency Certificate (Certificate of Residence) — not the Thai Tax ID/TIN.
Answer summary
Obtaining a Thai Tax Residency Certificate while on a Digital Work Visa (DTV) is possible, but it involves several steps. Applicants must first have a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and should have stayed in Thailand for more than 182 days in a year. They will need to gather documentation, including passport stamps to prove their stay, and eventually apply for the certificate through the Revenue Department after filing taxes. There are reports of varying experiences depending on the immigration office, and having a native Thai speaker may ease the process.

Dante I would even understand.. because people can stay working online in Thailand 5 years .. in 5 years you meet great people.. find a spouse .. you feel like home ♥️🏠 .. but you can not open an account, you dont have residency.. non-resident prices are biiig for everything. Countries in Europe are cheeper- tourist prices are very high .. no commuting .. so its great to do driving licens and buy a bike or car .. etc
Also mostly work online is very complicated only options for foreigners, because nobody gives a job to foreigner in Thailand.
Max Meier You sound like the same "player" type now being arrested for Nominee Business. "Know any other way"? Thai Tax Number and Annual Tax Filing with No Thai Tax owed equals No Jail Time, No Fine, No Deportation, No Problem. Just chilling 😎 😌 ☺️
Brian Dickie and here for example australia: In Australia, there is no law that forces individuals to apply for or provide a Tax File Number (TFN). Applying for a TFN is entirely voluntary under Australian law. 😉 lived there 23yrs . not needed a TFN.. never paid a single cent tax. learn from google, apple, microsoft.. they all pay next to nothing. In Europe, there is no single "EU law" that forces individual citizens or residents to apply for a Tax Identification Number (TIN). find jurisdriction where u can play the game well..
Brian Dickie u dont even understand how this reality works..😂iam 58, lived in 3 diff countries ..never even had a personal tax file number !!! u r the one who applied for it and keep enslaving yourself..😂 deep asleep and fearful.. PS: Under Thai tax law, anyone who earns assessable income or owes income tax is legally classified as a taxpayer. never have income as a PERSON !!! dont own anything in your NAME !!! operate out of an LCC in diff jurisdiction !!!! than u will be never considered a taxpayer under law and dont need a tax number !!!
Currently, the Thai Revenue Department provides taxpayers with English-language Certificates of Tax Payment and Certificates of Residence. Taxpayers can use these certificates for tax purposes in foreign countries. I have previously requested these certificates for one of my clients to use in Indonesia.
Bob D'Andrea that wont help he wants a R.O22 Form R.O. 22 is an official document issued by the Thai Revenue Department confirming that an individual is a tax resident of Thailand for a specific tax year. It is issued in the context of a specific double tax agreement between Thailand and another country. It is reall called Thai Tax Residency Certificate and you don‘t get that at immigration
I have done it while on visa exempt.. You get a TIN first and if you have stayed more than 182days/per year then you get a paper from immigration that shows exactly that (has your entries/exits). Then you go and apply for this certificate of tax residency. Be prepared for delays/having your entries/exits marked wrong (their system is unreliable to say the least)etc so.. have patience and a thai native speaker (presentable) with you
There's no "tax residency certificate" but the is a "certificate of residence" which is obtained from immigration for the purposes of opening a bank account (non-o visa most likely required), yellow (house) book, purchasing a vehicle etc.
Alastair Phillip Patterson it is called RO22 and you get it from your revenue office after pay your tax, in Pattaya area you might not get it in Jomtien revenue office but might need go to Chonburi main revenue office.
BlueElephant4528 To get a Certificate of residence from the tax department you need a Tax Identification Number (TIN), evidence of tax filings (tax returns) etc. Eligibility will depend on the Double Taxation Agreement with your home country or wherever your tax liable. As your on a DTV your income will be tax liable from wherever your business is located and quite possibly not required to pay tax in Thailand which you probably know already. If you're looking to move your tax liabilities to Thailand then it'silely to be unsuccessful due to being on a DTV as this obviously requires income to be generated outside Thailand.
Graham Seal he is talking about R.O. 22 tax residency certificate from Thai Revenue department. Which is possible to obtain following a valid tax return. It’s needed to prove tax residency to other countries to stop tax claims and withholding tax. Among other things
