Hi all. Does anyone know if I can get a long term teaching licence here in Thailand? I've worked as a head of department in an international school for nearly two years, have a master's and a pgce from the UK (no Qts) and I'm enrolled on a doctorate in educational leadership. I've heard conflicting info about this. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry concerns the process of obtaining a long-term teaching license in Thailand for someone with a master's and PGCE from the UK, who has been working in an international school. Responses indicate that while initial qualifications are important, the changes post-COVID may require additional steps, such as passing an exam or completing courses for non-registered teachers in their home country. However, there may be exceptions based on one's qualifications and work experience.

Many thanks for the responses. I'm working in an international school and I have a work permit and I'm settled and I'm on my third waiver (I don't need a job or a work permit or want to teach a language as some of the above suggests. I apologise if I was unclear in my initial post). I've been told that pre-covid, your pgce and experience would get you a long term teaching licence, now the krusapa wants you to do a 7 module course (which was due to be released last march but still has not been) if not a registered teacher in your home country. It seems mad for me to pay for that when I'm paying for my PhD- there's zero time and zero money left. The HR at my school is, let's just say, not on the ball. Not at all. It's pretty shocking. They've pretty much said they don't know if I can get a long term license and to find out it would take a very long time.

if you have a bachelor in education or higher and 1 year teaching experience in your home country or 2 years in Thailand you only need to sit the Krusapha test, you do not need the 9 month top up course.

A PGCE will probably help. The ad below is past but will give you an idea. You can call/write to them. Good luck.

Need to sit an exam, if you pass the exam set out by the Krusapa then you'll get your Thai teaching licence.

You get your work permit through the employer you work for in country 💪🏽 usually need a TEFL cert or equivalent and or QTS especially in international schools.

I think you're fine with a PGCE or a Masters, if in Ed. Apply online at Kru sapa, the Teacher's Council of Thailand. You could also go there, show them your qualifications and ask. They'll tell you what to do.

If you're hired at a reputable school, they will do the paperwork for you to get your Thai teaching license. If memory serves, you can teach for two years without needing a Thai license; after that, your school needs to help you get your license to stay in compliance with Thai law.

you can get 2 license waivers which is 4 years, it is possible to get a 3rd waiver if you can prove you have enrolled in a top up course if you're not a licensed teacher in your home country near the end of your 2nd waiver.

Try a Uni near Future Park. You will get a job for sure but you have to walk in.

We had a shrink who worked until he retired at 74 years of age from VRU. Teacher certs are not required. Masters and above are paid well.

I am afraid you do not qualify for teaching a language
