Hi all! 1. Based on my research I concluded: if I would like to work as a teacher In Thailand I need a police clearance from my home country correct? 2. Is it okay to have a police clearance thats 2 years old or is 1 the min.? Also I lived in Cambodia past year.. would they want a Cambodian police clearance then? 2. You need official transcipts from your unviersity degree, do they give them back? 3. To obtain a visa most people need to leave and go to another country, some were able to do it through immigration and didnt have to leave? Thanks xxx

TLDR : Answer Summary
To work as a teacher in Thailand, you typically need a police clearance from your home country that is no more than three months old, as well as official transcripts from your university degree. Some employers may provide guidance on visa processes, which may or may not require leaving Thailand for a Non-B visa application. If you have lived in another country, such as Cambodia, you may also need a police clearance from there. It's advisable to check with potential employers for specific visa requirements.

Once you FIND a job I think that your employer will know what you need to get a visa either inside the country or at the thai consulate they recommend you to use.

It's totally up to the company you get employed by as far as if you have to leave the country to get the 90 day Non-B visa or if you can do an in country conversion from a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa to a 90 day Non-B at the immigration office.

Police clearances have to be with in the last 3 months.

Good Luck

I should have mentioned: You'll also need a bachelors degree or equivalent. I believe that'll be an HBO for people from the Netherlands.

Here's my points:

1. Yes, you *probably* need a police clearance before you can get the teaching license/ teaching license waiver. Good schools will want to see a police clearance regardless of what the actual visa laws say.

2. For visa purposes, what they are looking for are crimes that appear on international databases, stuff like outstanding arrests, child molesting, etc. If push comes to shove, you can get a police clearance at the central police station in Bangkok, by Siam BTS station.

3. To my knowledge, KSP does NOT need official (i.e. sealed) transcripts, a printout should do. You do need a real degree however.

4. You may be able to convert your entry stamp into a Non-B visa in Bangkok, if there's enough time left on it. In most cases, the schools send teachers to an embassy (usually Vientiane, Laos).

5. If you are *NOT* a native English speaker (this includes South Africans), you will need a TOEIC score of at least 600 points or more, that's no older then a year.

This is from the website of the Thai Consulate in Vientiane • A police certificate or an original letter of criminal record clearance issued from the country of applicant’s nationality or residence (valid for not more than three months and should be notarized by notary organs or a diplomatic or consular mission)

As a teacher? If you mean you like to work inside Thailand, first you find a school that is willing to hire you. They will start the process of application of the Work Permit, get a teaching license for Thailand, give you all the documents needed and tell you were to apply for the Non Immigrant B visa and when you have this, you pick up the Work Permit at the Ministry of Labor and then you can start teaching.
