TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about using an IRA retirement account and cash from a car sale to satisfy the financial requirements for a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand. Comments suggest that while assets in their home country could potentially be used as proof of funds for the visa application, it ultimately depends on the authorities processing the application. Community responses advised that the funds must be transferred to a Thai bank account and seasoned for two months before applying for the visa extension.

I'd surprised but it will depend where you apply and who looks at your application

It's likely that you also could use those assets you NOW have in your home country to obtain the OA visa for retirement. It's a one year Visa AND can be extended a second year. No funds needed in a Thai bank account. Explore the opportunity by looking at your home country Thai Embassy or Consulate for the OA visa requirements.

@James *******
if OA, you also MUST have 1 uear insurance policy meeting Thai specifics.

Along with other requirements for the OA visa. The real reason that the OA visa is liked by many is the fact that you never have to deposit 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only. There are Americans who use the OA visa for 2 years then return to the USA and apply for a New OA visa for retirement.

Which State in the USA

@James *******
State is of no relevance to visa.

Pardon me but it does have relevance. You must apply for any Thai Visa in the USA with the Thai Embassy or Consulate which services the STATE where you live in the USA.

What is your home country?

You can use proof of funds in your country to show you meet the financial requirements to get the 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement.

As far as will that be accepted, it's going to come down to who's approving your documentation.

All you can do is apply, they'll email you if it won't work

Get here, get 800k into a Thai bank account in your name only, let it season 2 months, then apply for the yearly extension

There is no requirement that the funds for a year extension originate from abroad.
