Good morning,

I have been on a marriage extension for 4 years,

This year I can't do my extension as I have insufficient funds,

My money Is late coming in this year, so I'm thinking I have to leave and come back on a 60 day visa exempt, by which time my funds will be here, am I able to do this and apply for the marriage visa again?

And if so can I just go to a bordering country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about their options after being on a marriage visa extension for four years but unable to renew due to insufficient funds. They consider leaving Thailand to return on a 60-day visa exemption to wait for their funds to arrive, and they seek confirmation on whether they can reapply for the marriage visa upon their return, including if a border crossing is necessary for this. Responses from the community affirm that it is possible to do so, while also providing insights into potential requirements and considerations for the application process.

Just get a 60 day visit family ext no need to leave the country at all. So many know it all know nothings here

Just get the DTV and you won't have problems with requirements anymore...anyways they don't like foreigners marry their girls... So no more stupid interrogations...

Applying is such a pain though...I am also redoing it because the time to renew was so inconvenient. Maybe pay for an agent once? For the funds that is.

Yep you can, you have to start it from scratch tho. Get Visa first, then maybe you need a Thai witness when you apply for next extension, expect immigration to pay you a visit home and so on

I don't think all home visits and witness should apply as he already has 4 years under his belt

for them it doesn't matter how many years you had on a Visa that is now no longer valid. Getting a new Visa can restart the process, been there done that

Did you already use the 60 day visit family extension based on being married? That extension is available once per entry. And it would allow you to both buy time to season your money, and also lets you apply again directly for the one year extension, without needing to start over with a new initial 90 day non o.

you cannot do the "change of visa type" straight from the 60-days extension based on family visit to the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O marriage visa. The police order clearly states that you can apply for the change only from out of a tourist visa or visa exempt entry. All David Mcmillan can do is ask his Immigration if they are willing to let him apply as you suggested

in fact I know several people who have done it that way, and for the same reason. That the money wasn't there or seasoned enough yet.

there is no chance of visa type, he is already on yearly extension. He apply for the 60 day visit family extension, and then again a yearly extension. It is all based on the same reason (marriage to a thai) and is perfectly doable. He is not applying for a new visa when doing this.

So do I apply for the 60 day extension then the 90 day family visa then extension, I think that is what you are saying.

I reckon what
@Mikkel ******
posted is correct. If so, you can apply for the 1-year married-extension straight from the 60-days family visit extension as soon as you meet the deposit seasoning requirement which should say two months prior to application

"he is already on yearly extension. He apply for the 60 day visit family extension, and then again a yearly extension." . . . . . . . YOU ARE WRONG! He will first need to apply for the "change of visa type" to a 90-days Non-Imm-O family visa, before he can apply for the 1-year extension. He cannot go staight to the 1-year extension from out of a 60 days family visit extension

Yes you can, they may ask you about it but not an issue. Last time i entered was tourist visa was marriage visa before. They asked me and i said need time to reapply no issue. Still undecided whether or not to do DTV.
