Hello

Looking for some advice please. I’m currently on Ed visa that runs out in feb. I’m married to a Thai marriage is registered in Thailand with certificate so want to apply for marriage visa. From my understanding I need to leave the country and re-enter on a tourist Visa then apply for marriage visa. Is it ok to do this by land boarder. I’m from the United Kingdom.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an Ed visa expiring in February and is married to a Thai citizen. They seek advice on transitioning to a marriage visa and are considering leaving Thailand to re-enter on a tourist visa as required. Commentary suggests alternatives, such as changing the visa reason at the local immigration office, which may allow them to stay in Thailand without leaving, provided they meet certain financial criteria.

I believe that the OP has the answers needed for his questions.

We wish him success in obtaining the One year Married to Thai extension of stay.

QUIK questions...

.....Do you currently have 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only? If so, has it been in the bank account for 2 months?

....I assume that you are now on a 90 day extension of stay with your Ed Visa...

If you are...

Then you will need to have the school where you are currently studying prepare a letter from the School to Thai Immigration stating that you will be ending your Ed Visa course of study on xxxxxx date.

Take that letter to the Thai Immigration office which ISSUED you the Ed Visa STAMP requesting that they cancel the Ed Visa.

AND ask them IF you can change the REASON FOR the Ed Visa to that of being as Married to Thai.

If that can be done, there's NO need to leave Thailand and reenter.

IF you don't have the 400,000 Thai baht in the Thai bank account... and need ADDED time to season the 400,000 Thai baht TWO FULL MONTHS , Ask your local Thai immigration office if they will grant you a 60 days family visit extension of stay?

then go to your local Thai Immigration office and ask them if they will allow you to get a 60 day family visit extension of stay at the end of your current Ed Visa expiration date ???

IF they will ALLOW you to get the Family Visit 60 days, then ask them IF you can change the REASON FOR THE EXTENSION to that of being Married to Thai ?

It's been done in other Thai Immigration Offices.... hopefully they will ALLOW you to do it Without the need to leave Thailand and reenter Thailand.
