TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the confusion regarding visa applications while in Thailand. It clarifies that one cannot apply for a visa from inside Thailand and must leave the country to apply at a Thai embassy abroad. Additionally, for those who have not overstayed their visa-exempt entry this year, it is suggested they can consider a border run to extend their stay.

If you are wanting another 60 days here and haven’t entered by land already twice this year on visa exempt then you could just do a border run using one of those border run company’s that get you out and back in one a day trip. It will get you 30 days with 30 more extension at immigration.

you’ll have to google search for ones from your area or consider travelling to somewhere where they do them.

excuse my ignorance I’m new to this. So do I go across border right before Current 30 days expire and then come back across gives me 30 days? And then when that 30 almost over go to immigration and get a final 30 days? Appreciate any direction 🙏🏻

apply for your regular 30 day extension first at your local immigration. Every entry is entitled to one 30 day extension on a tourist visa or visa exempt. After that is expired you need to leave the country and do the border re-entry process.

Yes it's telling you that because you can't apply for a visa from inside Thailand. A visa is something you apply for from a Thai embassy BEFORE you travel to Thailand. You submit your application through the Thai embassy that represents where you are physically. Obviously there's no Thai embassy inside Thailand. If you want or need a visa then you leave Thailand and apply for the visa at a Thai embassy in the country you travel to. None of embassies in SE Asia use evisa so you'd have to apply in person at the embassy.

I thought I was only able to visit Thailand 2 times in a given year with out a visa. Didn’t have a visa on first visit and had hoped to have E Multiple Entry visa On this visit.

thank you for explaining . I didn’t realize there was a difference between air and land entry. Had ticket out of Thailand at 55 days but guess I screwed up by not having having a return ticket to Thailand in the itinerary. Obviously not a world traveler . Scheduled to fly from Bangkok to Ubon this afternoon and not sure how to proceed. Think I will go to immigration in Sisaket next week and see what maximum extension I can get. If i have to , just go to Vietnam or Laos and start over when I can

if you entered without a visa, you can only apply one time for a 30 day extension. After that you'll have to leave

you can only enter without a visa at a land border 2 times per year. There's no limit written into law for arriving by air. But after 2-3 times or 4-5 months they're probably going to start questioning you and possibly give you a warning before denying entry.

If you applied for the multiple entry tourist visa that's probably what's wrong. You have to prove you need multiple entries. That means uploading a ticket to Thailand, a ticket out of Thailand within 60 days, and then another ticket into Thailand. On the visa application they say you must show your justification for needing multiple entries.

I applied a month before leaving and submitted documents and then had to catch existing flight. Am I correct that I am caught in Catch 22? Since this is my 2nd visit to Thailand, if I leave to apply from other countries Thai Embassy, I won’t be able to return? Thanks

normally they would still issue the visa after you left. But if you didn't submit your flight before you can't use your flight that you've already taken. You can go to an onward travel website and get a new flight for about $10.

I don't know what you're talking about not being able to return. There's no legal limit to how many times you can fly into Thailand. Until immigration thinks you've been in the country too long to be a tourist.
