Can I get dental work verification from a Thai dentist while in the US?

Mar 21, 2025
I want to go the soft power route through dental work as I do need extensive dental work.

1. Will Thai dentists see me and be able to provide me verification letters while I’m still here in US?

2. How would you recommend I find an appropriate dentist for this?

3. Would they expect some sort of payment before providing me the proper documentation I need?

Just not sure where to start…

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on obtaining dental work in Thailand, specifically regarding the ability of Thai dentists to issue verification letters from the US, methods for finding an appropriate dentist, and the expectation of payment for necessary documentation. Responses suggest starting with research and consultations, obtaining prior dental records, and understanding potential payment requirements for documentation. Additionally, it is advised to possibly visit a dentist post-arrival in Thailand for necessary examinations.

thanks how did you choose a dentist, was the process easy? Was there a cost just to provide the paperwork?

Anonymous participant I was in Chiang Mai and started some dental work ( ongoing periodontal work ) and asked my dentist to write it out ...nicely !! As I have been coming to CM for many years ...a few people have mentioned the Chiang Mai University, The Facility of Dentistry.....so I used that place Ohhh ..no cost but paid for two visits as i want work done ..but set out with a DTV in mind

Enter Thailand visa exempt, go to a dentist, enquire and explain you need a diagnosis and treatment plan document with scheduled appointments. Go to a neighboring country and apply, wait for approval and return to Thailand.

sounds like the best plan. Did you bring pets to Thailand?

I understand you don’t want to leave Thailand once you arrive but think of it this way

Would a US dentist commit to an extensive dental plan without a consultation with the patient.I don’t think so. So why would a dentist in Thailand agree without seeing you first 😀

I hear you which is why I’m asking. I’m also seeing many options for online consultations for international patients. So I suppose my best bet is to try and see.

I’m like you tho I don’t see the incentive for them to see me if I can’t pay them yet loll but I’ll try

I have a dvt on dental . First thing you need to go to dentist that is accredited. I went to Bangkok hospital and had a plan drawn up . Then I went to Europe I applied thru Budapest Embassy and I added supported documents and had one in a week

think I may have to do this. Any chance they do online consultations though? I’ve seen some that seen like they can offer some. I have seen the dentist here as well….

Anonymous participant probably not

Normally, the Thai dentist will conduct an examination, and you must provide your own dentist's dental report before the Thai dentist can issue the letter for you.

so this would be in person right? I’m trying to prevent myself having to go in and out of the country as I know to apply for the dtv I can’t be in Thailand at the time of application for the dtv right?
Boaz *****
Anonymous participant Some dental clinics and hospitals can perform online procedures; however, you must first consult with them.

Best to give as much evidence as possible, so if you can visit a dentist in your home country, get an exray -Quote for all the work to be done, connect with a Thai dentist exchange emails with them get a quote from them arrange for appointment times book a stay for long close to dentist, if you have some idea how you'll spend your free time show that, show bank statement that you have enough money for treatment and to live, possibly add a cover letter why your looking to get treatment in Thailand

this is all really good info thank you. I’ve already had extensive x rays with an American dentist.

Is it feasible to ask them to send it to the Thai dentist and then the Thai dentist could grant me to documentation needed for the visa without being seen? I’m just trying to prevent having to go in and out of the country after a consultation with the dentist as I know you cannot apply for a dtv while in Thailand still, right? Also I’ll have my cats lmao, thanks a bunch though!

Anonymous participant sure the dentist usually won't be sure of what documents needed but you can try, also if your feeling a bit paranoid and traveling long distance would recommend maybe getting an established agency to do the paperwork for you, they mite charge a bit but will help you a great deal

thanks a bunch! what could the agency help with? Could you direct me to any legit ones?

Start by researching dentists and read up on reviews and possibly speak to previous patients who have gone through the process - similar as you would if you were taking a new dentist at home. Then contact the clinic for more specific details as to how the consultation process with them works

thanks! Good advice. I suppose just the normal google route would work to find one, Ideally I’m only paying Thai prices because that’s the what’s in my budget. But I know I can’t apply for the dtv while I’m there like on a tourist visa right? So if I get a dentist consultation I’ll have to leave again to apply for the dtv right?
Beverley ********
Anonymous participant - if you’ve had the consultation and have the work booked in, I presume the dentist can provide some kind of paperwork to support that for your application for the DTV before you go. Those are probably questions you need to ask the dentist

Better to do a muay Thai DTV. I'm sure any dentist will expect a lot of money for their supporting documents.

oh this is good to know. Have you heard of Thai dentist providing these documents after seeing me via like a telepresence ? It’s just I have cats and am trying to avoid going in and out of the country.
David ********
Anonymous participant look in this group for people who have used a dentist and choose one. You will have to make an appointment for consultation. Then ask for a treatment plan starting when you think you will want it. Then go out of Thailand home or wherever and apply dtv. As far as the cats go get a sitter a cat is no reason for online consult the dentist will want to examine you discuss what you want and cost.

hmm thanks for the suggestion! I’ve heard people use dental plans before and the prices I’ve shopped around do seem in budget for me. I just have no idea where to start when finding one like I’m sure they don’t take USD?

Anonymous participant I don't have any experience in some kind of dental work visa, actually I've never heard of it 😂 I hope it goes well though, consider all your options 🙏
