I’ve been caught with the ceasing of the 45 day visa free change to 30 days. I am travelling for 40 days. Can I get an extension in Koh Samui, or do I need to do a border run?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can obtain a 30-day extension of your stay at a Thai immigration office in Koh Samui for 1900 baht. It is important to ensure that you have a TM30 form on file with Thai Immigration.

So I apply for the TM30 at the Thai Embassy in Sydney before I go? I hold an Aussie passport (sorry, forgot to say that) so I believe I get 30 days automatically. Do I still have to get a TM30?
