Can I get a 60-day visa stamp twice under the visa exemption after traveling to Laos on my trip to Thailand?

We are leaving for Thailand 🇹🇭 in early January 2025 and returning to the USA 🇺🇸 on the end of April.

Our plan is to enter under the visa exempt/get 60 day stamp, travel to Laos 🇱🇦 in early March by air and return several days later and hopefully receive another 60 day stamp and return home at the end of April.

Has anyone left Thailand 🇹🇭 and returned a second time under the visa exempt and received a 60 day stamp both times?

Or should we get a multi entry tourist visa that’s good for 6 months and get stamped in each time for 60 days????

Any and all comments will be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to travel to Thailand, utilizing the visa exempt entry to receive a 60-day stamp, then travel to Laos and return for another 60-day stamp. They seek advice on the feasibility of this plan and whether a multi-entry tourist visa would be a better option. Comments from the community indicate that this approach is common and typically successful, provided the traveler has no issues with recent travel patterns and is prepared with proof of onward travel.

People do it all the time. Very unlikely to have any problems entering a second time.

It's 60 days on arrival n another extension of 30 days only not another 60 days.total for the year is 180 days allowed for the visa free exempt countries

The author is leaving Thailand then returning some days later. The 30 day extension is quite unnecessary.

Many thousands of people do this every year. You will have no issues

this is the first year the 60 day entry has been in place.

no kidding. However, the 30 day was in effect for many, many years and operated exactly the same

We made the same more times, but flying to Penang, Malaysia after 60 days and then flying back to Thailand. We didn't even have the ticket to Malaysia before the first arriveing, but the proof of the hotel reservation.

If you don’t have any recent excessive Travel history in and out of Thailand, you’ll be fine with two visa exemptions and a trip to Laos. You’re still genuine tourists and not misusing the system for long term stay in Thailand.

Your plan is fine. Just make sure you buy your tickets to Laos before you set off on your trip, that way if you are asked for proof of onward travel out of Thailand you have it available.
