TLDR : Answer Summary
The original post discusses a rumor that showing canceled flight tickets and a new valid ticket can secure a 30-day extension in Thailand even without an embassy letter. However, a comment clarifies that the canceled and new flight tickets must be presented to the embassy to obtain the necessary letter for immigration, indicating that the rumor is only partially accurate.

the cancelled ad new flight tickets has to be shown at your Embassy to get the letter. And with that letter you visit Immigration for the Extension

It is a rumor as half of the procedure is mentioned.
