Hello all! Canadian here, I’ll be landing in BKK in November on a Non -O, going back home for Xmas then back in January, will I still be able to get my 12month extension in January if I’m back b4 the 90 days? Tia
Answer summary
A Canadian expat landing in Bangkok on a Non-O visa is inquiring about obtaining a 12-month extension after returning from a trip home for Christmas. Community responses indicate that as long as the expat purchases a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand and returns before the 90-day entry stamp expires, they can apply for the extension. Additionally, it is essential to meet specific requirements for the extension, including having a minimum of 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to applying.

when you enter Thailand you will get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. As a Canadian, for the application to the 12-months extension of the stay permit based on retirement, you need a minimum of 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account seasoned for 2 months on the day you apply for the 1-year extension (at least for the first one-year extension). That means you need to get a Thai bank account openend ASAP after you entered and transfer the money into it ASAP, to meet the timeline. Buy a single re-entry permit on Immigration for 1000 Baht or at the airport for 1200 Baht, before you exit Thailand. It will keep your 90 days stay permit alive and active until its original expiry date
it is not the "visa which is finished" but the 90-days stay permit, if you exit Thailand without a re-entry permit. The initial 90-days visa is "finished" (becomes invalid) when you enter Thailand !
As long as you purchase a re-entry permit before you leave and you're back before the entry stamp in your passport expires, you'll be able to apply for the extension. You'll also need to meet all the requirements of your immigration office for the extension.
