Can I fly into Thailand with a COVID test done in Australia while stopping over in Vietnam?

Is it OK to fly into Thailand with an antigen (or PCR) test obtained from country A, checking in for the flight from country B (after a 24 hour stopover), provided the results are within 72 hours of the flight departure to Bangkok? I assume yes, but wanted confirmation.

Just as an example here, say I were to fly from Australia to Vietnam with a test result issued in Australia, then spend one night in Vietnam and then fly onto Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the validity of a COVID test for entering Thailand after a stopover in Vietnam. It confirms that a lab-issued antigen or PCR test result from Australia can be used, provided it is done within 72 hours of departure to Bangkok. Additionally, it highlights the importance of confirming with the airline regarding their specific acceptance of the test results due to potential varying policies.

TL;DR,

Double check with the airline.

I did something similar February 2022, Mexico->US->Thailand, I thought I could show up in Thailand with the Mexican lab results but the Airline was funny about it so I had to get a test done in the US. I was only there for 24 hours and the Mexican lab results were only 48 hour or less.

I was flying Singapore Airlines.

Also, could you be a bit more specific about your experiences because Thailand has definitely greatly relaxed restrictions over the past several months. Last year for instance, even babies needed to have a PCR test before departure and were tested, sometimes brutally, on arrival. This practice has stopped now, with those under 6 not requiring anything, whereas some sources suggest anyone under 18 doesn't need anything as long as they're traveling with their parents.

When did you enter Thailand?

Singapore Airlines doesn't fly to Mexico, so I suspect you entered the US by land (or air, with a different carrier) and then switched to SQ to get to Bangkok. Now SQ involves a change of aircraft in Singapore as well, as there are no non-stop flights from the USA to Thailand.

My flight is on the same airline from the origin through to Thailand.

I am a little bit concerned that they might say something but it's also possible due to the relatively short transit, they might ask for the test in Australia (where I'm flying from) and this won't need to be checked again in Saigon. It could be they might issue both boarding passes at the same time in Australia.

I'll try to insist they accept my test. I'll only be transiting for 24 hours; in fact, with the airline I'm flying I can't continue onto Thailand the same day as there's no onward flight to Bangkok the same day. Pre-Covid, there would have been, but now there are fewer flights than there used to be.

If you’re vaccinated, there is no testing requirement.

Thanks. Yes, it would be a lab issued one.

However, I understand it is possible to use a self test, via remote video link, which is then certified by a lab. A friend used that to enter Thailand back in June, which is when the Thailand Pass was still required.

It should be fine. Just make sure it's a lab issued results and not an at home test.
